KREMLIN – MOSCOW

DAY 1 FRI MOSCOW Arrive at Moscow airport and meet your driver for your private transfer to Hotel Marriott Tverskaya (4 star). This evening, enjoy a welcome drink and dinner at the hotel where you will meet your fellow tour members and local guide who will review the details of the programme and answer any questions you may have. (D) DAY 2 SAT MOSCOW Enjoy breakfast, then embark on a comprehensive coach tour which will introduce you to the political and economic capital of the Russian Federation. First stop at Red Square where you will see the iconic St. Basil’s Cathedral and Kremlin, the city’s original “fortress.” You will also see other landmarks such as the Bolshoi Theatre, KGB Building, Russian “White House” and Moscow University offering spectacular views of the city. Also visit the picturesque Novodevichy Convent and Cemetery founded in 1524 and burial ground of many famous Russians. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit Tretyakov Gallery, an outstanding museum that houses the world’s finest collection of Russian art and icons. Tonight is free for your own further exploration of Moscow. (B, L) DAY 3 SUN MOSCOW Today your guide will take you on a tour of the Moscow Metro, an architectural and artistic masterpiece. Many of the stations were built in a grand, Soviet style

with a lavish use of marble, mosaics, bronze sculptures and chandeliers. The Metro tour concludes at Red Square where you will have time for an optional visit to Lenin’s Mausoleum or St. Basil’s Cathedral. At midday, witness the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, then tour the grounds of the Kremlin including its three main cathedrals. Also visit the Armoury Museum - the treasury of Russian czars with an impressive collection of thrones, carriages and coronation dresses from the 16-19th centuries. You then have free time on Red Square for an optional lunch and shopping at the famous GUM shopping arcade. After returning to the hotel, you may choose an optional Moscow Circus or Bolshoi Theatre performance (to be paid locally). (B) DAY 4 MON MOSCOW – VLADIMIR – SUZDAL Today you depart Moscow for a 3-hour drive through the Russian countryside to Vladimir, one of Russia’s oldest cities. Founded in 1108, Vladimir reveals a wealth of historical, cultural and industrial heritage and is recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site. On a brief tour, you will see the city’s Golden Gate, St. Dimitrius Cathedral and Nativity Cathedral where Alexander Nevsky is buried. The highlight in Vladimir will be a visit to a factory that produces wooden matroishka dolls and the opportunity to participate in a painting class. Then continue to Suzdal, a charming town of lovely old monasteries and architectural monuments built by several generations of artisans. Here you will meet a local farmer and have a tour of his house, followed by a traditional Russian lunch. Your afternoon sightseeing of Suzdal will include a visit to the

11th century Kremlin, Museum of Wooden Architecture and Saviour Yevfimiev Monastery. Dinner and overnight will be at Hotel Pushkarskaya Sloboda (3 star). After dinner, enjoy free time to explore the streets of this quaint town. (B, L, D) DAY 5 TUE SUZDAL – SERGIEV POSAD – ST. PETERSBURG Continue your Golden Ring journey to Sergiev Posad (Zagorsk). Founded in the 14th century, Sergiev Posad is home to St. Sergieus Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Russia and the “Vatican” of the Russian Orthodox Church. Here you will visit the historic 15th century Trinity Cathedral and Cathedral of the Assumption. After lunch, return to Moscow where you will board a late afternoon train for St. Petersburg. Relax and enjoy the scenery during your 5-hour journey, with a dinner box provided. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Hotel Angleterre (5 star) for your overnight stay. (B, L, D)

DAY 8 FRI ST. PETERSBURG Enjoy the morning at leisure for shopping or optional sightseeing to St. Isaac’s Cathedral located opposite the hotel. At noon, depart for an excursion to impressive Petrodvorets (Peterhof), Peter the Great’s imperial summer residence on the Gulf of Finland. After a tour of the palace, you will have a walk through the lavish gardens whilst enjoying the beautiful fountains and cascade. You will have some free time back at the hotel before continuing to nearby Nicholeavsky Palace. Celebrate the conclusion of the tour with traditional music and dance at a Russian folklore show, followed by a special farewell dinner in the palace. (B, D) DAY 9 SAT ST. PETERSBURG The morning is at leisure until your transfer from the hotel to airport or railway station for your onward journey. (B)

CATHERINE PALACE – ST. PETERSBURG

DAY 7 THU ST. PETERSBURG A short drive from St. Petersburg brings you to the former aristocratic town of Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) which became the official royal residence in the 18th century. Here you visit the magnificent centrepiece of this village, the baroque Catherine’s Palace set in vast French-style gardens. You will have lunch in Pushkin before returning to St. Petersburg where you will stop at Hare Island and Peter and Paul Fortress, the foundation of the city in 1703 and burial-vault of Russian emperors since 1725. Although the evening is at leisure, an optional ballet or opera performance will be offered (to be paid locally). (B, L)

ST. BASIL’S CATHEDRAL – MOSCOW

DAY 6 WED ST. PETERSBURG After a buffet breakfast, your local guide will meet you for a pleasant stroll to the renowned Hermitage Museum, located in the former Winter Palace. On a 3hour orientation tour, discover its immense collection of over 2.7 million items of European art, followed by some free time. You will then have a coach tour of this grand imperial city which was the Russian capital from 1712 to 1918. Highlights include the Nevsky Prospekt - the city’s main boulevard lined with aristocratic mansions and majestic cathedrals, Kazan Cathedral, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Mariinsky Theatre, Palace Square, Smolny Institute and St. Nicholas Church. The tour concludes at a local restaurant. After dinner, enjoy a special cruise along the city’s beautiful canals and experience “Venice of the North” from a unique perspective. (B, D)
