Sit back, relax and enjoy a scenic drive as you escape the hustle and bustle of the city for the tranquility and calm of Gatineau Park. As your group travels by luxury coach along the routes within the park, you will see many different flora and fauna, and animals native to the region. You will also experience some of the best views at Mackenzie King Estate. The Estate consists of 231 hectares of splendor situated in the heart of Gatineau Park. For nearly 50 years the Estate was the summer residence and refuge of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada’s tenth prime minister. Upon his death in 1950, Mackenzie King bequeathed this wooded paradise to Canadians. Following the tour, guests will be invited to enjoy lunch at Moorside Tea Room on the grounds of the estate. Tour time: 9:00 a.m. Meet in Lobby of Westin Hotel for departure at 9:30 a.m., return to Ottawa at 2:30 p.m.
Friday June 30, 2006 – Rideau Hall – Governor General’s Residence and Market Walking Tour
Canada’s Governor General invites you to visit Rideau Hall, the home and workplace of every Governor General since Confederation in 1867. This is a place where Canadians are honoured and welcomed alongside world leaders and visitors from around the globe. Rideau Hall is a 79-acre oasis of beautifully landscaped grounds, including the magnificent residence and gardens. Your bilingual guides will lead you through the grounds, highlighting points of interest and history. Just minutes from downtown, Rideau Hall is a great place to visit for people of all ages. * Please note that any cancellation of the tour, due to official functions, could be of very short notice. After the tour of Rideau Hall, you will be transferred to the Byward Market for a guided walking tour. Accompanied by your own personal guide in historical dress, you will get a personal tour of the renowned Byward Market. Comprised of many historical buildings and unique shopping venues, the Byward Market is a wonderful place to explore. Your hour and a half tour will include a short walk along the Rideau Canal, a brief stop at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Parliament Hill, Majors Hill Park, the American Embassy and conclude with the Byward Market. After the tour, you will be free to wander and enjoy the Byward Market and do some shopping.
