The Equal Justice Foundation presents AUCTION CATALOG The Fifth Annual College of Law Auction October 17, 2008 6:30 p.m. hotelVetro, downtown Iowa City DETAILS The Fifth Annual Law School Auction begins at 6:30 p.m. at hotelVetro (201 S. Linn Street) at the E.W. Lehman Ballroom (on the second floor) in downtown Iowa City. Door prizes available. One host keg plus cash bar of wine available. Schedule of Events 6:30—7:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. 7:45—8:45 p.m. 8:45-—9 p.m. Cocktail/happy hour/silent auction opens Silent Auction CLOSES Dessert Bidding starts promptly at 7:45 p.m. for live auction Raffle Winners Announced Parking Street parking is available throughout downtown Iowa City and it is free after 5 p.m. Parking is also available in the following nearby ramps: 1) at the Sheraton ramp on the corner of Dubuque and Burlington (free when validated at hotel); 2) at the ramp on the corner of Court and Dubuque Streets; and 3) at the ramp on the corner of Iowa and Linn/Gilbert Streets (where Zender’s and the Cottage are located). Proxy Bidder If you cannot attend the auction and would still like to participate in bidding, please e-mail or call Naeda Erickson (naeda-erickson@uiowa.edu). Who Can Bid? All items contained in this catalog are available for bidding on October 17th. Unless otherwise stated, anyone can bid on an item whether you are a student, faculty member, staff member or alumnus of the College of Law. If you want to bid on an item, but are unable to attend the festivities a proxy bidder is available. Please contact, Naeda Erickson (L2), naeda-erickson@uiowa.edu. Payment Unless you are bidding by proxy, all payments for sold items will be due the night of the auction. So, please come prepared to pay. Payment can be made only by cash or check (payable to the Equal Justice Foundation). Tax receipts will be available. Bidding on Silent Auction Items All items will have a starting bid. All bids must go up by at least $5. Minimum Bids The minimum bids are listed to facilitate groups who are organizing to bid together for large items and to ensure that bidders are mindful of the Auction’s purpose to raise money to support public interest law. Raffle A Raffle will be incorporated into the auction event. You can purchase a raffle ticket at the EJF Auction Tables starting Oct. 13 though Oct. 17 and at the Auction. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 3 for $10. AUCTION FACULTY ITEMS Professors Schantz and Benzanson: Golfing anyone? Professors Schantz and Benzanson offer an 18-hole match to any two golfers willing to take the challenge (and the highest bid). Two-person best shot at Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon, Iowa. Professors Benzanson and Schantz will cover all of the greens fees plus lunch at Joensy’s in downtown Solon (home of the World’s Biggest Pork Tenderloin). Losers buy the first pitcher of beer. (minimum bid: $50). Professor Bauer: Delving into Dylan - Professor Bauer will host a Bob-centric Friday afternoon gathering (beverages and light snacks for up to four persons) that will include audio and video dimensions of any facet of Bob Dylan’s career (e.g., album, song, era, performance) of particular interest to the winning bidders. This item includes one copy each of The Essential Bob Dylan (2 CDs), Martin Scorsese’s No Direction Home (2 DVDs), and the first edition of Nigel Williamson’s Rough Guide to Bob Dylan (paperback book). At bidders’ request, gather may also include less concentrated consideration of audio and video dimensions of the musical careers of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and/or Van Morrison. Professor Cox: Brunch at Professor Cox’s home for four students on a mutually convenient date. (minimum bid: $75). Professor Liebig: Brush up those tennis skills and challenge LAWR Professor Liebig to a tennis match. Professor David: One of Professor David’s hobbies is photography, and she has agreed to donate a 10 X 17 framed photo taken at Lake Tahoe, California. (minimum bid: $300) Professor Porter: Whether you already love the links or fear having to yell “fore”, Professor Porter will design a golf outing for three students, depending on skill level. Options include lessons from Iowa women’s golf coach Diane Thompson, 18 holes at Finkbine, or an afternoon at the range and a best ball match-up. Includes lunch or dinner after the golf. Professor Porter: Escape the crowds, hassle, and expense of a restaurant and come to Professor Porter’s house for an end-of-year graduation party. She’ll serve up brats, beer, and fixings (including a graduation cake) for 10-12 people! Bring your family or just gather a group of friends for this special occasion. (minimum bid: $200). Professor Bonfield: Dinner at Professor Bonfield’s home for six on October 25th. Dean Hines: Join Dean Hines for a gourmet dinner at his home for eight (minimum bid: $300). Professor Hauserman: Enjoy two delicious homemade pecan pies— pictures now, pies when you most need them! FACULTY AND STAFF ITEMS continued Professors Kurtz , Pettys, & Hovenkamp: A night at Riverside Casino for four students—includes a total of $200 in chips plus Dean McGuire: Two “bagel baskets” delivered to your home on a Saturday or Sunday morning in November, December or January. Clinical Professor Acton and her husband, Richard, Lord Acton, a member of the House of Lords have written one of the chapters of this amazing book. It is over 500 oversized pages. Professor Tomkovicz: Enjoy a home-cooked Middle Eastern dinner for up to 6 students (and, if the students wish, a faculty member of their choice) at the Tomkovicz home on a mutually convenient date--preferably during the Spring semester, 2009. If the students twist his arm, Professor Tomkovicz will display his immense (and ever-growing) collection of memorabilia from his beloved alma mater.
