Middle School Dedication to be Televised
This Sunday, September 18, 2005 at 2 p.m.
Hundreds of people are expected to turn out to see the dedication of the city’s first new school in more than 50 years. The dedication of Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School is a true community celebration: everyone from the guests, to the color guard to the caterer is connected to the school in some way. The event will feature student performances, video presentations, special gifts to the school and a surprise announcement. It will be broadcast live on Falls Church Community Television Channel 12/Starpower Channel 2. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 18. Honored guests will include Mrs. Henderson’s son, Dr. James H.M. Henderson and many other members of the Henderson family. Local, state and national dignitaries will also take part in the celebration.

Meet Your School’s Administrators
Come have coffee with your child’s school administrators! At Thomas Jefferson, Principal Trudy Taylor’s Coffees offer an opportunity for parents to discuss topics they may have questions about – curriculum, tests, student behavior, etc. The coffees are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 8:45 am. The first coffee of the new school year will be held Wednesday, September 21 at 8:45 am. For more information, call 703-248-5660. Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Principal Rochelle Friedman also communicates with parents through her monthly morning coffees and afternoon teas, usually held on the first Tuesday of each month. However, October’s event will be held on the second Tuesday, October 11th. The gatherings allow the principal to address parents’ concerns and issues directly. Coffee is served at 7:30 a.m. and tea at 1:30 p.m. For more information, please call 703-720-5700. George Mason High School Principal Bob Snee’s Parent WalkIns serve a similar purpose: an informal atmosphere where parents can ask questions, offer suggestions or simply make comments to the school administration on matters concerning the school and its programs. Principal Snee will be available from 7:00 – 7:45 am in the Mustang Café on the following Friday mornings: Sep. 30, Oct. 28, Nov. 18 and Thursday, December 22. For more information, call 703-248-5500.
