HELP FEED THE HUNGRY AT BYRAM DAY, OCT. 4
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, Sept. 17, 2008 …. Bring a non-perishable food donation when you attend Byram Day on October 4, and help feed the hungry! All contributions go directly to the Manna House in Newton, where lunch is served to anyone who walks in the door – no questions asked.
Donations of canned foods, particularly tomato sauce, stew and tuna, as well as paper towels, napkins, dish detergent and powdered juice are appreciated. Cash donations are also helpful.
Contributions should be brought to the We Help Others (W.H.O.) vendor booth. Contributors may enter to win a $25 gas card!
W.H.O. is a local youth community service group established in 2002 by Byram area teens to address local and worldwide concerns. Members of W.H.O. have been honored with the President's Volunteer Service Award in recognition of their outstanding volunteer service and civic participation.

The group has served lunch at Manna House, and recently held a garage sale that raised $260 for Nothing but Nets, an organization that helps fight malaria by supplying insecticide-treated bed nets to the world’s poorest countries. The group has helped the Morris County Department of Human Services raise donations for school supplies for underprivileged children; organized Blood Drives; raised donations for Emmanuel Cancer foundation and the March of Dimes; and worked with kids at the Helping Horseshoe Therapeutic Riding Club in Newton.
Founding members of W.H.O. include these Lenape Valley Regional High School students: Michael Costello, Ryan Costello, Nicole Valerio, Erica Valerio and Madeline McGarrity. Ryan Costello and Rachel Gaul are co-Presidents, and have been volunteering with W.H.O. since its inception in 2002. Other area members include Grace Miller, Kenneth Natelli, Carly Miller, Victoria Ruff, Kate Kelly, Brandon Jennings, Cory Pruce, Emily Nosenchuk, and Caitlyn Schmidt.
Visitors to Byram Day are urged to help W.H.O. restock Manna House pantry shelves in anticipation of a cold winter and higher consumer prices, which may drive more people to Manna House for a hot meal this winter.
