GALA SPECIAL Volume 11, Issue 11 Bits & Bites November 2006 President’s Message Dear Members and Prospective Members: WOW, is it November already? What a diverse experience I’ve had serving as your 2006 ACEP President, truly a great learning opportunity. My sincere thanks to everyone who assisted me along the way! Thank you to the fantastic Board of Directors who contributed their time and energy each in their own way, all the while maintaining their sense humor. Meeting monthly with all of you was definitely high on my list of “Favorite things about being President.” Thank you to the great membership who got involved when needed, generously shared feedback, suggestions and ideas about how to enrich the ACEP experience as a whole. Thank you to all the Members who hosted, entertained and catered to us throughout the year. Thank you to Sandy and staff with Catering At Its Best, who every year gives so generously to ACEP. Thank you to Irene Mills of Angelica Photography and Don Richardson our ACEP Webmaster, for working together so well to update www.acep.com, creating the contemporary ACEP brand represented on the Web today. Thank you to the ACEP Public Relations committee, Amy Wing with Dance Techniques, Janelle Meredith with Stargazer Basket, Lora Heil-Frone with Meeting and Conventions of Oregon, Inc., and Dallah Reese with Impact Advertising Specialties, all for their individual contributions to the work done to increasing ACEP’s visibility within the community. Thank you to Dawn Tryon with OREF and ProStart as well as Patrick Galvin with Galvin Communications, for their contributions throughout the year as first time partners with ACEP. In reviewing the three main objectives I identified as my focus at the beginning of the year: Increase the membership, regularly provide exceptional meetings, and build on our education program, I feel a sense of achievement in knowing that time and energy was invested throughout the year among these areas and progress can be measured…slightly (I’m kidding). Truly ACEP has grown and continues to grow in many ways and we have a prosperous 2007 before us... Which brings me to my closing thank you (please forgive me if I’ve managed to overlook anyone!), many thanks to the Gala committee, Irene Mills of Angelica Photography, Linda Smith of Notes of Celebration, Lesley Wise of Image Wise Productions, Lora Heil-Frone with Meeting and Conventions of Oregon, Inc., Amy Wing of Dance Techniques and Candy Stedman of Red Lion Hotel, who have been a part in planning a great party to end 2006 together. This year’s event holds promise of being a wonderful evening of celebration! See additional details regarding the evening within in this newsletter issue. I truly hope to see everyone at the Gala get down and have a great time! Come to the PARTY and celebrate our great association together. As always, any questions or interest in the information above, feel free to contact me at either 971-563-0350 or at dominique@acep.com. My sincere thanks to everyone! Warmly, MISSION STATEMENT ACEP’s Mission Is To: Identify and give status to the catering and event planning industry as a whole and to represent its desires and best interests to the community at large. To promote the exchange of common ideas and solutions. To develop a cordial relationship among its members. To present to the members programs of educational value relating to catering, event industries and allied businesses. ACEP’s BENEFITS INCLUDE Complementary web page, monthly meetings and newsletter. Reduced AAA membership, educational scholarships and more! Dominique S. They have made some incredible renovations and really improved the look and feel of the interior space. If you haven’t been by, be sure to check out the Knucklehead Room when you do. Although we had a relatively small group that evening, we were cozy up on the second floor as we all sat around one table, making the meeting a wonderfully intimate experience and rich with networking. Bridgeport really out did themselves with a fantastic buffet featuring a variety of delicious menu offerings, all beautifully displayed, complimented by excellent service. Marty Peterson, the speaker for the meeting, shared some valuable insight with her presentation, “Hiring the Right Person for Your Greatest Marketing Impact.” Marty shared her years of experience and wisdom having been in the “business” and spoke of identifying certain personality types in different individuals. Based on the qualities that potential employees demonstrated, you could create a better match between the person for the job and the tasks at hand. An addtional bonus during her presentation came when Steve DeAngelo volunteered to assist Marty and did an excellent job of role playing to help in illustrating her points. “If you must choose between two evils, choose the one you haven’t tried before.” “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.” --Alvin Toffler, American writer submitted by Cheri Baber MEETING NOTICE AND RESERVATION FORM Page 3 Gala 2006 Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM When: Windows Skyroom - Sixth Floor Red Lion Hotel Portland Convention Center 1021 NE Grand Avenue Portland Where: DRIVING DIRECTIONS • Merge onto I-5 S toward PORTLAND • Take EXIT 302A toward ROSE QUARTER / CITY CENTER. • Take the ramp toward ROSE QTR. • Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto N VANCOUVER AVE. • N VANCOUVER AVE becomes N WHEELER AVE. • Turn LEFT onto NE MULTNOMAH ST. <0.1 miles Map • Turn RIGHT onto NE 2ND AVE. <0.1 miles Map • Turn LEFT onto NE HOLLADAY ST. • Merge onto I-84 W / US-30 W toward PORTLAND • Take the I-5 N / US-30 W exit toward SEATTLE. • Take the exit toward CONVENTION CENTER / ROSE QUARTER. • Turn RIGHT onto NE HOLLADAY ST. • Turn LEFT onto NE GRAND AVE / OR-99E N / PACIFIC HWY E. • Merge onto I-5 N toward PORTLAND • Take the WEIDLER ST. exit- EXIT 302A- toward ROSE QUARTER / BROADWAY. • Turn RIGHT onto NE WEIDLER ST. • Turn RIGHT onto NE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR BLVD / OR-99E S. • Turn LEFT onto NE HOLLADAY ST • Merge onto US-26 E toward PORTLAND. • Merge onto I-405 N via the exit on the LEFT toward ST. Mr. Davis has worked cracking up audiences at everything from county fairs and company picnics, to department stores and club events, including such clients as Burgerville USA, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, Intel, Mentor Graphics, Portland Yacht Club and Multanomah Athletic Club to name a few. Scott’s other appearances include nightclub comedy shows, trade shows, and restaurant walk-around entertainment; not to mention working as a stage technician, magical assistant, and featured Ventriloquist in the touring production of The World of Magic starring famed magician, Stan Kramien, for six seasons! We are fortunate to have High Fidelity Music Catering Music as MC at this year’s gala event, creating an entertaining evening filled with music, dance instruction and Game Show Mania. Page 6 gala PRIZES AND MORE This Year’s Silent Auction We encourage guests to enjoy and bid on the select silent auction items on display at this year’s gala. Thank you to all the A.C.E.P. members for their generous contributions. The money raised on the auction will be allocated among three different areas. The primary investment will be applied to the ACEP speaker budget. In 2007, membership can look forward to having the opportunity to enjoy compelling educational speakers offered more often throughout the year. The secondary application of the fundraising would be allocated to continue the fostering of the ProStart program through OREF, increasing the value of the student scholarship ACEP will award in 2007. The third application will be applied to continue our connection with Potluck in The Park, supporting their efforts and the meaningful work they do all year. Please think generously when bidding on the silent auction. Have a great time… all for great causes!
