A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of Kentuckian and Major League Baseball player Brandon Webb, winner of the 2006 National League Cy Young Award. WHEREAS, Brandon Webb was born May 9, 1979, in Ashland, Kentucky; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb attended Ashland Paul Blazer High School, where he enjoyed great success on the baseball diamond; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb attended the University of Kentucky, where he was a standout pitcher for the Wildcats Baseball team; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb has played four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, starting 129 games and striking out nearly 700 batters in his career; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb enjoyed an outstanding season in 2006, starting the season 8-0 and winning a league best 16 games while finishing up with a final record of 16-8 with an earned run average of 3.10 and striking out 172 batters while allowing only 50 walks; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb recorded career highs in wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts, and a career low in walks issued; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb was selected to the National League All-Star Team in 2006, the first time he received such an honor; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb's outstanding season was honored in a very prominent way when he was named winner of the 2006 National League Cy Young Award, emblematic of the outstanding pitcher in the league; and WHEREAS, Brandon Webb became the first Kentuckian to win a Cy Young Award in the award's 50 year history; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

applaud the accomplishments of Brandon Webb, congratulate him on the honor of winning the 2006 National League Cy Young Award, and declare him to be an outstanding citizen of the Commonwealth and an exemplary role model for the young student athletes in the Bluegrass State. Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in

honor of Brandon Webb. Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives shall forward a copy of this Resolution to Representative John Vincent for presentation to Brandon Webb.
