CHAMBER MISSION
Mission: To improve and expand business opportunities and to educate others on the history, culture, and diversity of the Chinese American community. Vision: To increase revenue streams for community businesses by making Chinatown a major destination point for visitors to the Midwest, City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois.

A resident of Chicago and the community of Chinatown, Ms. Susan Ng graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1990 with a Bachelor Degree in Journalism and Communications. Ms. Ng has 15 years of professional experience in various areas including product management, sales and marketing, business development, advertising, public relations and training. Ms. Ng was in the banking and financial industry for over 11 years in which she worked as a senior management team member in local (Hong Kong Chinese) and international financial institutions such as The Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., Manulife (International) Limited and Dah Sing Bank Limited. Her responsibilities during her financial career encompassed product development and marketing of retail banking and insurance products and services. Ms. Ng is bi-lingual in English and Chinese. Her language proficiency gives her definite advantages in carrying out her responsibilities as an Executive Director in promoting the businesses and tourism industry of Chicago’s Chinatown. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, a not for profit organization committed to promoting the businesses and tourism industry of Chicago’s Chinatown. She serves as a liaison to the Board of Directors and the Board of Advisors for the Chamber of Commerce. As Executive Director, her responsibilities include: • Overseeing the daily activities of the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce to fulfill the vision established by the Board of Directors. • Liaison to governmental officials and local corporations interested in investing in Chinatown and the Chinese American community of Illinois. • Advising the Board of Directors on policies and legislative programs that will serve the community of Chinatown more effectively • Overseeing and coordinating fundraising efforts by the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce

• Asian Heritage Month — In May 2006, the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce participated in organizing the Asian American Festival, a five-day event at Daley Plaza hosted by the Chinese community in celebration of the Asian American Heritage Month. In addition, in March, 2007, the Chamber hosted the Asian American Coalition of Chicago Lunar New Year Celebration banquet in joint efforts with various Chinese community organizations, which was attended by a thousand dignitaries, government officials, communities and business leaders. 亞裔傳統月— 二零零六年五月, 華商會參與舉辦「亞裔美國人節」,在戴利廣場舉行為期 5 天的 亞裔傳統月的慶祝活動。 此外,華商會及華裔社區於 2007 年 3 月聯合主辦美國芝加哥亞裔聯盟春 節晚會,出席之官商領袖及社會賢達近千人。 Beautification of Chinatown — Through the partnership with the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, Chinatown Parking Corporation, and the City of Chicago we were able to maintain dwarf evergreens and perennials in the flower pots around Chinatown, as well as the beautiful murals painted by students from John C. Haines Elementary School located at Canal and Cermak. Proceeds of the 2007 Race went to St. Therese Catholic School, John C. The Chamber also frequently arranges meal reservation and shopping excursion for tours at member restaurants and shops. With an average spending of $8 per person, the Chinatown Tours have brought approximately $24,800 of additional revenue to the Chinatown business community. The Chinatown youth club provides free monthly activities to the youth such as movie shows, educational seminars, barbecue parties, and personal counseling, etc.. 華埠青少年會 — 由華商會及華埠多個社團與芝加哥警局聯合成立的『華埠青少年會』每月舉 行青少年聚會, 節目包括免費電影欣賞、教育性講座、野火會、個人輔導等,讓青少年在成人 義工們的指導及監督下聯誼及娛樂。 Chinese New Year Celebration — In partnership with the Chicago Foundation for Women, the Chicago Chinatown Chamber of Commerce hosted the Fourth Annual Chinese New Year Celebration at the Hyatt McCormick Hotel honoring Asian American Women Breaking Barriers. Honorees included Tammy Duckworth, Director of Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs; Sandra Otaka, Judge of the Circuit Count of Cook County; and Alpana Singh, Director of Wine and Spirits, Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, Inc., and the host of TV Show “Check, Please!”.

Along with our work in helping register people to vote and participating in community meetings, the Chamber also hosts a weekly breakfast meeting with the Chicago Police Department and the Chinese/Asian media every Tuesday morning at the office of the Chamber of Commerce. Family favorite “Charlotte’s Web” was shown, and free popcorn was provided to spectators. The objective is to promote Chinatown as a must-go destination to over 250,000 tourists from within and out of town. Dr. David Lee has led the Chamber’s efforts in the CAPS program for the past eight years. Schools receiving funding include the St. Therese Catholic School, Perspectives Charter School, Robert Healy Elementary School, the James Ward School, and also the John C. Haines Elementary School. 學校合作項目 — 與芝加哥公立學校及華埠停車場公司合作, 華商會向芝加哥公立學校捐款支持語 文和種族多樣化學習的推廣。 獲贊助的學校包括聖德力小學,Perspectives Charter 學校,洛博特希 利小學, 傑斯沃德學校, 興氏小學等。 Security Cameras in Chinatown—After a long negotiation with related government entities, the Chinatown Chamber of Commerce along with Chinatown Parking Corporation finally procured the support of the Office of Alderman Solis of 25th Ward to install two security cameras in October, 2006 at Wentworth Ave. and Cermak Rd., and Wentworth Ave. and 23rd Place respectively. Connected to and monitored by Chicago Police Department around the clock, the security cameras have added tremendous value to the safety of the Chinatown neighborhood. In addition, the Chamber has recently secured the commitment of Aldeman Solis’ Office to install two more security cameras in Chinatown. 警察監察攝錄機–華商會聯同華埠停車場有限公司與 25 區區長辦公室及市政府商討多時,終於 成功爭取得蘇禮仕區長贊助,在 2006 年 10 月於永活街夾舍麥路及永活街夾 23 小街兩地點分別 安裝監察攝錄機,該兩攝錄機 24 小時與警察局聯繫,對華埠治安帶來莫大裨益。此外, 華商會 最近更獲得蘇禮仕區長辦公室承諾,贊助於華埠安裝另外兩部監察攝錄機。
