Spring flowering shrubs blossom on twigs that matured the year before. They blossom so early there is no time to
put on new growth before it is time to flower. These shrubs are pruned at the end of their flowering season to
encourage more abundant summer growth that will support next year's crop of flowers. Examples include Bridal
wreath, Forsythia, Lilac and Flowering Quince.
Goodway Landscape Scenary Monrovia Custom Soil Blend is one of the core blends used in Monrovia’s growing
fields. Rich with both ecto- and endo-mycorrhizae, the soil improves a plant’s tolerance to transplant and drought
stress, while the compost reduces the need for fertilizer and other nutritional supplements. This soil is perfect for
containers and raised beds because the slow release fertilizer delivers nutrients for up to one year. Our Custom Soil
Blend is ideal for all types of outdoor growing including:
* Hanging baskets
* All outdoor container growing
* Raised bed gardens
* Planting trees and shrubs
* Bulb planting
Today an eco-friendly garden. Tomorrow the world.
There are lots of great ideas for going greener in the garden. Some you can start right away. Other ideas, such as
reducing the size of your lawn may be more gradual. One small thing often leads to another and one day you find
that you’re not only an active eco-gardener, you are a true friend of the planet.

Nursery plants are sized by gallons, and this is the best guide for choosing your decorative containers as well. For a
smaller perennial such as a Fuchsia, you can use a 1- or 2-gallon pot. For shrubs such as gardenia, and vines like
bougainvillea that will reach larger sizes, use nothing smaller than a 5-gallon pot. For patio trees like citrus or tree
and perennial combinations, strive for a roomy 15-gallon pot. For full-sized trees such as crape myrtles, go larger
than a 15-gallon pot, but be aware these can be heavy to transport.
Irrigation automation is another way we conserve water. Hundreds of irrigation valves are computerized where site
managers can monitor and choose the most effective means of irrigating plants. Site managers are trained to know
how much water to use for specific plants at different times of the year. Correct irrigation not only saves water, but
also promotes healthy plant growth, reducing the need for corrective chemical applications.
