Message From The Principal
William Greene Volume 1, Issue 5
Happy New Year!
With January here, we are looking forward to Lunch at Lear for Parents. Lunch at Inside This Issue:
Lear for Parents will be held over seven days this month. The event is being
spread over seven days because of limited seating available in our lunchroom Page 1...
and so that we cause the least amount of disruption possible to Lear North. Principal
Beginning on Monday, January 11, parents of two classrooms per day are being Message
invited in to share a lunch with their child at Lear North. Please make every effort
to follow the day and time scheduled for your child’s Lunch at Lear for Parents
event. The schedule is listed within the newsletter. Page 2...
If you cannot make it in for lunch with your child, we understand. Please keep in
mind that moms and dads are both invited. If both mom and dad can attend, you
are both welcome. If only mom or only dad can come in, that is fine as well. Page 3...
Because of limited seating, we do ask that you find other arrangements for PTA Roster
siblings who are not yet of school age during our event. As far as lunch is Family Fun Night
concerned, parents are welcome to purchase a lunch at school, you can pack a
lunch from home, or you can bring lunch in from a local restaurant. However, in
order for us to be prepared about how many hot lunches to prepare on your
PTA Membership Form
Lunch at Lear day, we do ask that you fill out the slip within the newsletter and
Lunch At Lear
return it to Lear North with your child (if you have not already done so). (Parents)
At the end of the month, the Lear North PTA is having a Movie Night in coopera-
tion with the PTA from the Education Center. The date is Friday, January 29.
The movie will be held at the Education Center in the Community Room. The
Dates To Remember
admission price will be $1.00 for both adults and students. Popcorn and water will
be available for purchase at the movie for a minimal charge (no soft drinks or
juices will be able to be served because of the carpeted floor at the Ed Center). Page 6...
All proceeds from the admission prices and the snack sales will benefit the Lunch At Lear
Make-A-Wish Foundation. As you know the Make-A-Wish Foundation helps grant (Grandparents)
the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. More information School Information
about the Movie Night will be sent home with your child at a later date. Cookie Walk
Looking ahead to February, I am listing the dates and times for our Lunch at Lear
with Grandparents Days so that our grandparents can plan their schedules.
Please keep in mind that both sets of grandparents may attend. Again, please
make every effort to follow the scheduled day and time for your child’s class. The
slips that we ask be returned in order to give us a number of how many lunches to
prepare will be sent home in our February Newsletter.
Thank you for your support of Lear North Elementary School!

PTA President’s Corner
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful time with their
families and friends over this holiday break. Happy prosperous 2010
to all of our Lear North families!
I want to take this time and let you in on how PTA acts as an Advocate for our state and our
schools. An email went out from Ohio PTA on December 11th asking for all local PTA units to
reach out and let our State Senators know that we are paying attention to what goes on at
“Capital Hill” regarding our children and schools. Our help was needed to help push House Bill
318. The Senate was holding the bill up to consider adding extra provisions that would only
complicate the bill and take away from the issue of filling the $851 million hole in the budget;
this money is suppose to go towards funding education and has to be filled by December 31st
otherwise our children and our schools would suffer. PTA asked them to stop “playing politics
and having our children suffer because it”. The PTA Members responses to the Action Alert
for House Bill 318 regarding education funding made a big difference; State Senators ap-
proved the bill by a 17 to 15 vote. Yes, the passing of this bill is good news for Ohio Schools,
there have been no other major revenue sources identified to close the budget. Ohio PTA will
continue to address many more issues that affect our children and our schools and we look
forward to your support and action in this coming year. In a basic “nut shell” here is what
House Bill 318 will do for the budget shortfall:
*Temporary postponement of the income tax reduction: Delays the final 4.2% reduction in
personal income taxes approved in HB66 in 2005.
*Construction Reform Demonstration Projects: The Chancellor of the Board of Regents will
establish criteria to determine three capital projects at University System of Ohio institutions to
utilize alternative construction management methods, to serve as a demonstration of
*All-Day Kindergarten: Permits districts to request and receive a waiver regarding All-Day
Kindergarten from the Superintendent of Public Instruction until 2012, if the local board of
education approves a resolution with a justification for a delay.
*Funds for Non-public, Chartered Schools: Allows funds from lapsed line items in the state
budget to be transferred to two line items, Auxiliary Services and Non-Public Administrative
Costs, to support non-public chartered schools. The transfers to non-public schools cannot
total more than the amounts lapsed in the GRF line items of the Ohio Department of
*Mental Health Services: Corrects an error in HB 1, and directs $14.7 million in mental health
funds to the correct fund for community mental health services.
*The Ohio State Employment Relations Board: Corrects an error in HB1 and provides $2
million to SERB to support the merger of the Ohio State Employment Relations Board (SERB)
and the Personnel Board of Review (PBR) backroom offices.
I hope this has given you some insight into PTA being more than just fundraisers. We try to
make a difference locally and nationally in the lives of our children and schools. This is one of
the ways you can too! You can still join us at anytime!
As always, I look forward to seeing ALL of you around this school year! If you have any ques-
tions, comments or concerns, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call
440-353-3600. Thank you!

Teacher Cookie Walk-Valentine’s Day
Friday, February 12th, 2010
Calling ALL bakers!
Here’s your chance to show our Teacher’s
how much we appreciate them by baking 1 dozen cookies
for our 1st Valentine’s Day Teacher Cookie Walk.
The Teacher’s will walk around a table and pick cookies
to fill their “basket” with.
Let’s help the teachers start off their Valentine’s Day with a
special Valentine from us.
The Teacher’s we have done this for before have expressed how much they love
the cookie walk’s.
So PLEASE, help us make this Valentine’s Day Cookie Walk a memorable one too!
You can call our Staff Appreciation Chairperson,
Pam Vatavuk at 440-225-8474 to
let her know what type of cookies you can bake.
As always, THANK YOU for your help and for giving
“Cookie Valentine’s” to our Teachers this year!
