Installation Hints for the GPO Access WAIS Client s GPO does not support this product for use with Microsoft’ Windows NT ® Operating System. This hint sheet is provided only as a courtesy to GPO Access customers who wish to use the Windows WAIS (WinWAIS) client software on Personal Computers running the Microsoft ® Windows NT® (NT) Operating System (OS). Users who choose to install and use WinWAIS on NT® systems do so at their own risk, and GPO may not be held liable for any OS failures or data loss. If you choose to proceed with installation on NT ® , follow the steps outlined below: NOTE: If your system drive is a drive other than “C:\”, substitute the correct letter for your configuration where referenced below. If your “windows” folder is named something other than “winnt”, substitute where appropriate. 1) COPYING SUPPORT FILES a) Method One (Preferred) i) Insert Disk 1 into your floppy drive. ii) Shut down all applications, and any memory resident utilities displayed on the Taskbar Tray. iii) Click on the “Start” button on the taskbar. iv) Select “Run” v) Type “command” in the “Open” box of the dialog vi) Click “Ok,” or press <ENTER> vii) At the command prompt, type “copy a:\support\. c:\winnt\system” Don’t include the quotes. viii) When finished, type “exit” at the command prompt, and press <ENTER> b) Method Two i) Insert Disk 1 into your floppy drive. ii) Shut down all applications, and any memory resident utilities displayed on the Taskbar Tray. iii) Start the Windows Explorer iv) Expand Drive A: v) Open the folder titled “Support” vi) Select all the files in the “Support” folder. vii) Copy them to your Windows NT ® system folder. Typically, “C:\WINNT\SYSTEM” Do not copy them into the “SYSTEM32” folder. 2) RUNNING THE INSTALLER a) Insert Disk 2 into your floppy drive. b) Shut down all applications, and any memory resident utilities displayed on the Taskbar Tray. c) Click on the “Start” button on the taskbar. d) Select “Run” e) Type “a:\program\setup.exe” in the “Open” box of the dialog f) Click “Ok,” or press <ENTER> g) At this point, a WinZip ® dialog box will be displayed - click on the "Setup" button. h) Once all files have been extracted, the EINET ® installer will launch. i) When the EINET ® installer prompts you for the "Installation/Distribution Files" directory, select the C: drive. In most cases, the path will then show “C:\temp\” or “C:\winnt\temp” and a subdirectory starting with "wz...". This is the path for the source files.
