Snoring is the resulting sound of the vibration of respiratory structures which happens

when the air movement is obstructed when breathing while sleeping. It is look upon in

different angles;some referred to is as a sign of good sleep, others consider it a nuisance

while some find it funny. A person who snores loud is a candidate for sleep apnea

which is a serious health condition that can affect one's relationship with one's partner,

families and friends. It becomes a problem already if it affects one's relationship with

Snoring does not have to be treated through surgery or expensive gadgets. In fact, a

simple change in ones' lifestyle and sleeping patterns can have a great impact on putting

a stop to snoring.



1) 1. Change your sleep position and sleeping habits. You can try some of these

methods:



a) Use a few extra pillows and prop yourself up in bed, rather than lying flat on your

back. This will prevent the tissues in your throat from falling into your air passages.



b) Try to sleep on your sides inside of your back. Also, sleeping on a firm mattress can

help you keep your neck straight.



c) Try to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday to establish a natural/biological

sleeping pattern.



d) Sleep in a well-ventilated and cool room. Research has shown that sleep is less

disturbed at cooler temperatures. The ideal setting is 64-66 degress Fahrenheit (18 to 20

degrees Centigrade).



e) Do not eat heavy meals before sleeping. Eat leavy vegetables such as broccoli and

cabbage in moderation as it can cause your stomach to be gassy.



2) Try to lose some pounds especially if you are overweight. Fat and obese people tend

to have bulky tissues in their throat area which can block the nasal air passages which

can aggravate snoring.

3) Stay away from drugs, alcohol and smoking. Drugs and alcohols can increase muscle

relaxation which deepens sleep and causes snoring.

Smoking, on the other hand, can produce mucus in the nose and throat which can affect

the nasal air passages.



4)) There are anti-snoring products being sold in the market like mouthpieces, anti-snore

ring, pillows, mouth guard and those funny gadgets that one has to wear around the head

before sleeping. Before purchasing any of those, try to read reviews first to see if they

are actually effective.



5) There are breathing exercises that you can perform to address the problem. This will

strengthen and tone the muscles in the throat area which can lead to the clearing of the

nasal air passages. This is a good treatment to look at because its approach to solving the

problem is targeting the underlying cause of snoring.
