Which students must participate in spring
PSAE testing?
    All students classified by their home districts as being in
     grade 11 at the time of testing, except
        Some IEP students take the Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA)
        Some students are exempt (i.e., medically exempt, homebound
         exempt, in jail/locked facility, attending a facility out of
         state/country)
  Foreign exchange students classified as being in grade
   11 must test.
  Students classified as being in grade 11 multiple times
   must test again for grade 11 accountability.

2010 PSAE Test Components

   PSAE is comprised of eight separate tests, referred to
    as “PSAE Day 1” and “PSAE Day 2”

    PSAE Day 1: ACT Plus Writing (five tests)
    PSAE Day 2: The ISBE-Developed science test and
                two WorkKeys tests

   PSAE standard time testing is administered in two days;
    accommodations testing windows are two-weeks

Review of the 2009 PSAE Administration

During the spring 2009 administration of the PSAE:
   133,551 students successfully completed testing and
    received the BONUS of a College-Reportable ACT Score.
   However, 532 students in Illinois did NOT receive the
    BONUS of a College-Reportable ACT score due to school
    misadministration (219), prohibited behavior (241), or
    late/erroneous return of answer documents by the school
    (72).
   1,399 students received State-Allowed ACT results

Is PSAE Day 1 a “real” ACT test?
    The form used for PSAE Day 1 is equivalent
     to other ACT Plus Writing test forms
      English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and
       Writing
      Administration must meet standard testing
       requirements
      College-Reportable ACT scores to all colleges and
       universities in the U.S.
      NCAA does accept for initial-eligibility

What’s New for PSAE in 2010?
  Elimination of the PSAE Fall Retake
   (Public Act 96-0430)
  Some grade 12 students may participate in PSAE:
   ONLY those who need to satisfy the PSAE diploma
   requirement and are not exempt.
  Grade 12 students who may need to participate are
   added to each school’s Pre-ID file. Check this year’s
   PSAE diploma guidance document carefully for
   possible exemptions!
  Grade 12 students do not need to test separately due
   to grade level

Pre-ID File and Assessment Correction File

   ISBE’s Student Information System (SIS) automatically
    populates each school’s Pre-ID file with grade 11
    students and some grade 12 students (those who have
    not yet satisfied the PSAE Diploma Requirement).
   Districts must keep enrollments and demographics in SIS
    updated so the Pre-ID file is accurate.
   February 26, 2010 – Pre-ID file sent to ACT to print Pre-
    ID Labels
   May 13, 2010 – Last day of PSAE testing-districts must
    make sure the Pre-ID file is accurate
   May 14, 2010 – The Pre-ID file becomes the Assessment
    Correction file

Athletic Coaches

  For Accommodated Testing – An athletic coach may
   not serve as the Test Accommodations Coordinator,
   if any student testing with accommodations is an
   athlete.

  For Standard Time and Accommodations testing –
   an athletic coach may not serve as a Room
   Supervisor – in any one-on-one situation where a
   student athlete is testing.

   Administer tests in order: Test 1,Test 2, etc.
   Test materials: no transferring or sharing between
    schools

      separate room for each timing code

 Avoiding the Pitfalls – Accommodations
  No single test session may be longer than one day
   (for multi-day testing)
  Day 1 tests first, then Day 2 tests
  Different Timing Codes = Different Rooms
  PSAE Day 1 accommodations materials are “Student
   Specific”
        Do not change the ACT-Approved timing code
    ACT-Approved separate from State-Allowed
