CARR DAVID BLACKWOOD (VACANCY) ROBERT LERNER (VACANCY) (VACANCY) (VACANCY) CHRIS BYRNES [For the Commission on Civil Rights statement of organization, see the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 45, Part 701] The Commission on Civil Rights collects and studies information on discrimination or denials of equal protection of the laws because of race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, national origin, or in the administration of justice in such areas as voting rights, enforcement of Federal civil rights laws, and equal opportunity in education, employment, and housing. The Commission on Civil Rights was first created by the Civil Rights Act of 1957, as amended, and reestablished by the United States Commission on Civil Rights Act of 1994, as amended (42 U.S.C. 1975). submitted to the President and Congress, and many of the Commission’s recommendations have been enacted, either by statute, Executive order, or regulation. The Commission evaluates Federal laws and the effectiveness of Government equal opportunity programs. It also serves as a national clearinghouse for civil rights information. Regional Programs The Commission maintains six regional divisions. Activities The Commission makes findings of fact but has no enforcement authority.
