Teeth whitening is perfectly safe. In fact, the American Dental Association even has an official statement
recognizing its safety and effectiveness. Not only will the treatment remove stains but taking only one hour is
                                                  the biggest advantage

Teething is a mine of misinformation and many pages have been written about teething remedies
and suggestions on what to do to help baby when he's cutting his first teeth. Here's one that will warn
you about some of the more dangerous "don't dos", based on feed back from Moms all over the world.

1. Don't use pain relief gel too often - If you use too much gel, it can numb the back of your baby's
throat which weakens his gag reflex - a gag reflex stops him from choking on his own saliva. Although
these types of teething remedies are usually safe, they can cause an allergic reaction in some people.

2. Don't put anything sweet, like honey, on pacifiers or dummies. Baby will come to expect it and may
not accept the pacifier if it doesn't taste sweet. If your baby already has some teeth, the sugar could
cause decay.

3. Don't give your baby a lot of fruit juice - Even natural fruit juices contain a lot of sugar, but, even
worse, they also contain acid which can wear the teeth away over time. Give natural fruit juices in a
cup, not a bottle, which may stay in contact with the teeth.

4. Don't use a strong fluoride toothpaste - A baby will swallow the toothpaste so use a children's
toothpaste with less fluoride (or no fluoride) until they are able to spit it out by themselves. Fluoride is
toxic in excess.

5. Don't rub gums with alcohol - It should be obvious why alcohol isn't a good teething aid, however
there are still those who use it. Maybe they think alcohol will help baby sleep better - it won't!

6. Don't tie a teething ring around baby's neck - It may get caught in something and strangle him.
Attach it to his clothes instead

7. Don't give teething rings containing liquid - Avoid rubber or plastic teething rings with liquid inside
because they may break and leak. If you do use a teething ring, cool it in the freezer for a while.
However remember to take it out of the freezer before it solidifies, it might bruise those already sore
gums.

                                                                                                                    Page 1
                                                  Presented by Daniel Toriola

8. Don't skimp on cleaning milk teeth - If they're just going to fall out anyway, why bother cleaning
them? Milk teeth can become decayed and fall out before they should. Those milk teeth act as a guide
for the permanent teeth later. Without this guide, baby's permanent teeth may grow crooked. Also
cleaning the milk teeth sets up good habits in a young child. Habits picked up at an early age usually
stay with us for life.

9. Don't give baby too much Tylenol (acetaminophen) - Although it's probably better than some of the
other pain relief medications, Tylenol can lead to liver damage if too much is taken. Stick to the advised
dosage, like glue!

10. Don't give baby aspirin, it's dangerous. Aspirin has been linked to a potentially fatal condition
known as Reye's Syndrome in children. It's rare, but not worth the risk. So don't even rub baby's gums
with anything containing aspirin.

You're probably wondering if there's anything you can do. There's plenty!

You can put a wet flannel in the fridge or freezer and give it to baby to chew. The cold will help soothe
sore gums. Rubber teething rings or rings filled with water are fine to use, put these in the fridge too.

Use natural teething remedies for babies that are completely safe and contain natural ingredients such
as:

Calcium phosphate promotes both healthy circulation and strong teeth and bones, Passiflora
(Passionflower) soothes anxiety and promotes calmness and relaxation, Chamomilla (Chamomile) is a
well known herbal remedy for teething which also supports sound sleep and Matricaria Recutitais
soothes the nervous system and calms irritability during teething.

There have been some concerns about the dangers of teething tablets, so it's important to ensure any
remedy you use is completely safe.

                                            Teething Without Biting Your Nails
                                                           By Sarah Veda

For some babies, teething is a simple affair, with few noticeable side effects. For others, it takes
months of pain and anguish to get those first teeth to pop in. Here is some information to help you get
through the teething stage, without spending too much time biting your nails.

When will it happen? Well, that largely depends on when it happened for you and your husband. The
timing of the appearance of that first tooth is largely hereditary. The average age is about seven
months, though the first tooth can appear as early as three months, or as late as after the first birthday.
However, teething symptoms can begin two or three months before the appearance of the tooth, so
your child can seem to be teething for months on end. For many children, the painful symptoms are
much more pronounced in the first two or three teeth, but then subside somewhat on subsequent teeth.

How do I alleviate the pain? There are many remedies to help with teething, without resulting to over
the counter pain medicines. Homeopathic teething tablets, which dissolve on the child’s tongue, were a
godsend when my children were teething. I also took those little baby washcloths, wet them down,
twisted them into a sort of stick shape and froze them. They are easy to chew on this way, and are
colder than a traditional teething ring put in the refrigerator, though these work great for some babies.
When things get extreme, a little acetaminophen or ibuprofen before bedtime can help your child sleep
better.

Are there other symptoms? In some babies, there can be other symptoms that accompany the pain of
teething. The most common is a stomach ache and diarrhea. This is thought to be caused by the extra
saliva that a baby produces during teething. Many babies also run a low grade fever. Another, less
common symptom is what we referred to as “teething poop”. Whenever my daughter was going
through a bout of teething, her bowel movements would burn the skin on her bottom, as though it was
very acidic. So, in addition to being in pain from the teething, she had a sore bottom, too. We alleviated
this pain with oatmeal baths, and with being more diligent about changing her diaper immediately after
a bowel movement.

Teething is a normal part of babyhood, and, even if it is painful, it is temporary. Keep on top of the
symptoms, and soon you’ll be seeing a big toothy grin on your baby!
