Voicethread – www.voicethread.com A collaborative online tool that enable you to make slideshows (can be kept private or made public) and then invite comments in text, sound or video from collaborators. Examples of use – eTwinning projects, practicing vocabulary, creative writing What is a Voicethread? http://voicethread.com/#u7444.b409.i848804 how to make a Voicethread - http://voicethread.com/ #u7444.b8381.i61448 References for explanations - http://primarymfl.ning.com/profiles/blog/ show?id=738935%3ABlogPost%3A8621 example of a collaborative project - http://langwitches.org/blog/ 2008/01/11/voicethread-school-project/ love this Voicethread project - http://whatcoulditmean.wikispaces.com an eTwinning project - http://voicethread.com/#u7444.b39687.i208073 a class using Voicethread for global greetings - http:// techno6.globalstudent.org.au/say-gday-to-us/ very comprehensive list of Voicethreads!! http://www.pageflakes.com/ techieteacher/20554289 and another one! http://voicethread4education.wikispaces.com/ poetry sharing http://voicethread.com/#q.b579.i5325 Lego!! http://voicethread.com/#q.b46072.i240963 lstevens@whitehousecommon.bham.sch.uk nocilla13@yahoo.co.uk Lisa Stevens - http://lisibo.blogspot.com November 2008 Voki – www.voki.com A Voki is a talking avatar! You choose your avatar – could be an animal, anime, alien etc and background, then either record or upload sound (or you can type and the site turns it into speech!) Press Ok and you have a talking avatar that can be downloaded or just kept on the site. In MFL could be used for recording and assessing speaking in a fun way – and as it’s saved online, it can be reviewed later, allowing teacher to work with some whilst others record. Voki avoid the issue of videoing children and saving. Lots of examples of Voki (and many other uses of technology!) on this school’s blog - http://roydslanguagesdepartment.typepad.com/ my_weblog/ http://tamisteach4teaching.wikispaces.com.voki - example of use in History and ideas for collaboration http://class3hcefnfforest.blogspot.com/2007/08/voki-of-winning-poemfrom-eisteddfod.html - poetry recitation http://www.classroom20.com/forum/topic/show?id=649749%3ATopic %3A111203 - a project using poetry in a variety of languages as collaboration at Hors les murs. examples of poetry here in French, Romanian, Lithuanian, Italian - http:// horslesmurs.ning.com/group/vokipomes in Geography - http://igeogblogger.blogspot.com/2007/06/vokigeography.html http://encouraginglearnerautonomy.blogspot.com/2007/09/creating-vokicharacters.html -step by step instructions of creating Voki! Really simple to use and versatile – sound can be easily recorded edited and saved (in a variety of formats) with just a computer and a microphone. Also they’re fun! And can be used as ID on Voicethread. DoppelMe - http://www.doppelme.com Another avatar maker. Buildyourwildself - http:// www.buildyourwildself.com/ Another avatar building site – this time allowing you to be a hybrid animal! Uses as above, but also for animals, descriptions, habitats. (http:// lisibo.blogspot.com/2008/06/qca-unit-11-elcarnaval-de-los-animales.html gives details of how I used it for QCA unit 11) Twitter – I’m lisibo - http://twitter.com Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send "updates" (or "tweets"; text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter web site, via the Twitter web site, short message service (SMS), instant messaging, or a third-party application such as Twitterrific or Thwirl. NB as social networking tool, it will be blocked in your classroom but can be accessed via mobile phone, and is good for your PD! I use it to stay in touch with what’s going on in the world of education, and also to ask questions! I’ll put notes and stuff on my blog (see header for address) but if you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask (see footer for email!) – I may not know the answer but I’m sure to know someone who does! lstevens@whitehousecommon.bham.sch.uk nocilla13@yahoo.co.uk
