 • A flexible service capable of meeting the needs of a
   wider audience

   parameters of delivery
 • A structured method of evaluating both learning and
   teaching
 • To update PRIMIS+ training using the latest methods of
   delivery and technology
PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

 Review of training modules
 • Itemising the elements and themes contained
   within current training modules
    • Dissecting into knowledge and skills elements
    • Pulling training apart to put back together
       • Elements and themes are the building blocks of the new
         structure
    • Completed mid 2007
PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

 Quality Data, Quality Outcomes
 • Elements and themes identified:
    • DQ1 Principles of data quality
    • IMT1 Information management in general practice
    • IMT6 NHS for Connecting for Health

    • CE1 NHS culture and environment
PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

Outcomes of review
 • A new currency…
     • Units
     • Sections (building blocks)
 • Generic – not role or context specific
 • Toolkit approach to training
 • Flexibility in delivery
 • Increased ability to respond to new requests for training
   development
 • Greater inclusion – alternative training pathways
 • Less duplication
 • Identifying missing themes and elements

PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

 Progress with development of units
 • Challenge
    • Moving content from training modules to units
    • Introducing an e-learning component to each unit
    • Laying the foundations for accreditation

 • Three currently units in development:
    • Data Extraction in General Practice
    • Introduction to the NHS
    • Language of Health

 • Aim to pilot four units in Jan 2009
PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

 Benefits
 • Modern delivery method
 • There is the ability to reach wider audiences with tailored
   learning pathways
 • There will be a quantifiable outcome for learner, PCTs
   and NHS Connecting for Health
 • Training at this level, in this form, does not exist
   anywhere at present
 • The training is short term and easily accessible by PCT
and potentially other primary care staff
PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

 Caution!
 • Training organisation or educational institution?
 • Is there a demand for a qualification?
 • Managing demand for the qualification against the need
   for ‘just in time’ training
 • May result in a less personalised service?
 • Managing a mixed economy
 • Navigating the process of assessment and accreditation
 • Navigating the curriculum development process and
   providing a balanced curriculum
 • Maintaining and expanding current levels of PRIMIS+
   service
PRIMIS+ Conference 2008

 We want your feedback……
 • Training delivery methods
    • Face to face, online, learning networks
 • A PRIMIS+ Qualification
    • Levels, logistics, assessment
 • A wider audience
    • Identifying different learning pathways
    • Identifying new subjects to cover
