Taking the next step in industrial IT
The acquisition of IS Partner by EDB Business Partner is a crucial step for both companies, which we are delighted to have been able to accomplish. We believe that this move has created the ideal platform for us to serve the IT needs of Scandinavian companies that compete on the global stage. These qualities are complemented by EDB’s broad IT competence, resource strength and global sourcing capabilities. Together, we now have a full range of service offerings for customers, critical mass in IT operations and the ability to execute projects on a global scale. The initial response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive. Our company offers the full range of business critical IT services, from application services and industry solutions to operations and network solutions. EDB aims to be a close and attentive partner that utilises its deep industry expertise and international resources to help customers realise the full potential of IT.
Following the acquisition of IS Partner in January 2008, EDB is now a complete supplier of business critical IT services, with a leading position in the Nordic area and a solid international presence. With annual turnover of NOK 8 billion and an order reserve of NOK 16 billion as of January 2008, we have a solid financial position and can serve as a reliable long-term partner for clients. Improving customers’ competitiveness With the pressures of globalisation and competition increasing in all industries, EDB aims to serve as the partner that can strengthen its clients’ productivity. We look to develop solutions that can provide rapid payback on IT investments and contribute to operational cost reduction. Ambition for Nordic leadership and international expansion EDB has a clear ambition to lead the consolidation of the IT sector within the Nordic region. We have executed several transactions in line with this strategy, such as the acquisition of the companies that now form our Application Services business unit. Another example is our acquisition of IS Partner, which gives the newly expanded EDB the ability to provide end-to-end service for customers in the international oil and gas and process- and manufacturing industries. Structured for further growth EDB’s go-to-market structure is designed to support the company’s market ambitions. We have specialist areas serving six industry sectors: Banking and Finance, Public Sector, Telecom, Retail and Services, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas. In addition, there are two cross-industry business units; IT Consulting and Application Services and IT Operations (see model). With the eight areas reporting directly to the group’s management, our organisation is structured to be flexible and responsive, which ensures short decision paths and a high degree of internal cooperation.

Integrated Operations
creating business value with collaboration technologies
New technologies are transforming the way oil and gas companies find, develop and operate fields. New collaboration systems capture data from a wide variety of sources offshore, such as the well, drill bore, processing equipment and pipeline. These data are relayed in real-time to teams on the platform, as well as to the service centres on land. Thus, teams offshore and on land can process and discuss the same data sets, and ensure they interpret the information in a similar way. This makes for more effective decision-making. IS Partner assists StatoilHydro in creating a new generation of Integrated Operations, based on experiences from several platforms in the North Sea. The new platform of collaboration technologies promises to tie offshore installations and onshore centres together in tighter communication networks. The new technologies are not only making the North Sea a more efficient petroleum province. IS Partner worked with StatoilHydro to create the Global Operations Support Centre (GOCC), which can enable specialists in different parts of the world to share and work simultaneously with the same complex data sets by the use of 3D visualisation tools. This opens for a more efficient utilization of specialist competence throughout the company and secures the flow of critical information.

This helps us to serve clients better, by constantly enhancing our tools and methodologies. Sunde Group
IT outsourcing
Sunde Group is entirely dependent on a stable IT system that ensures efficient production and distribution of the company’s products; building installation, packaging and the raw material EPS. Sunde Group does not have its own IT operations department, and has outsourced its IT operations to EDB. The result is an extremely reliable system with very little downtime – which is essential for the company’s internal processes. Soon all the companies in the Sunde Group will have outsourced to EDB. This gives economies of scale, and simplifies work on integrating IT solutions across the group.
Norske Skog

A global delivery model
EDB’s integrated global delivery model enables us to maintain closer ties to our Nordic-based clients, while providing them with high quality services at reasonable prices.
Our global delivery model is integral to EDB and IS Partner’s approach, as it strengthens our position as a close and trusted partner to leading Nordic companies with global operations. Access to talented resources With demand for IT services growing rapidly, access to high quality and cost-efficient resources is a critical issue for many companies. To respond to this need, EDB has established a global sourcing model. Over the past year, we have acquired control of two Ukrainian IT companies, Miratech and Infopulse; as well as one in India, Span Infotech. With IS Partner joining EDB, our group is now established in 13 countries and has a presence in 50 countries, with more than half of our 6 000 employees based outside of Norway. closer ties to customers A critical element of EDB’s global delivery model is our emphasis on maintaining deep and broad ties with our Nordic customers. Through these close links to our customers’ decision makers, we are able to use our nearshore and offshore resources more effectively. Consequently, we have become an even stronger partner for clients, in terms of both development competence and delivery capability. An integrated approach At EDB, we provide global services in an integrated manner, rather than at a bolt-on. Our international infrastructure and support can be utilised to serve customers whenever and wherever their businesses require it.
IS partner
The common denominator in IT for business transformation
In today’s business environment, companies need to cope with a steady stream of organisational changes; mergers, acquisitions, divestments, re-alignments and partnerships. Yet these initiatives are inherently risky; most mergers, for example, ultimately fail to create business value. One key element in successful business transformations is the ability to implement change efficiently and without damaging the underlying business operations. Those operations – and the IT systems that support them – must continue to function seamlessly through the transition. IS Partner’s “Spiral” is a unique, structured methodology for handling IT changes during organisational change. The key to this approach is to begin developing answers to fundamental IT questions early in the transformation process. This continues, on progressively deeper levels, throughout the change process. Over the years, IS Partner has successfully supported many business transformations using this methodology. It has managed the IT transformation process for Hydro’s integration of Saga; divestitures of Yara and Polymers; acquisition of Spinnaker and the re-establishment of the core Hydro business as an independent company. The company has also gone through the same experience itself; first being spun off from Hydro and then joining EDB. As our key customers undergoes structural changes in the future, IS Partner will be ready to assist, with proven methodology and deep experience.

Global 24 hour support The acquisition of IS Partner has also enhanced EDB’s global delivery capability. IS Partner has a long history of success in executing large-scale global projects, such as the Qatalum project in Qatar and StatoilHydro’s Global Operations Support Centre (GOSC). Together, we operate a global network of service support locations in the Europe, Asia and the Americas. We also provide clients with 24-hour support capability across all time zones, through our dedicated centres in Norway, Singapore and the USA. With this framework and philosophy, EDB and IS Partner are able to serve customers’ international infrastructures, with a highly competitive cost position, broad access to development capabilities and flexible delivery capacity.
QATAluM
large scale systems
Large scale industrial projects require significant amounts of capital and expertise in several specialist areas and world class project management capabilities. As a result of this complexity, such projects are commonly executed through Joint Ventures (JVs), linking partners from different parts of the world. JVs require the involvement of an IT partner that can bring to bear a vast range of capabilities, in order to pull the project together. IS Partner’s involvement in Qatalum, the joint venture project between Qatar Petroleum and Hydro to construct the world’s largest aluminium plant ever launched, is an example of this. IS Partner is supporting Qatalum in setting up a SAP-ERP system for Qatalum, which will be adapted to its particular production and market environment. IS Partner is also supporting the implementation of the APICS system (Aluminium Production Information and Control System), which will give the plant management transparency and oversight of the production processes. Qatalum is yet another example of the value that IS Partner brings to complex international ventures; the deep industrial IT expertise and global project execution skills of an experienced partner.
