Future of Portfolio
Before this class I had completed on paper and one electronic portfolio. For me the electronic portfolio is much easy to maintain and keep. Plus, you do not waste paper. An electronic portfolio only takes up the about of space a CD does. I believe that portfolios are the present and future of portfolios. I say present because many colleges are using portfolios in their classes to assess the students. The use of portfolios is beginning to trickle down to the lower levels. In the future I believe that portfolios will be an item every student has to take with them through their educational career. It would track their whole career; students will be able to reflect on their work at the time of the assignment and then again later to see growth. As well, colleges would be able to see the whole student they are enrolling and not one piece of paper essay and transcripts. Students are not the only ones who would benefit from portfolios, but teachers and administrators would too. Teachers will be able to observe their students work and have the student’s reflection to understand what the student was or is thinking about the assignment and work. Administrators would be able to use the portfolios as a tool to evaluate their teacher. If the schools receive the proper technology and programming they will be able to compose electronic portfolios. There is a great future for portfolios; we need to keep on trying different software and using portfolios in the classroom. Myself For myself, I want to create a simple portfolio for my students, kindergarteners, so they can see their improvement through the year. I think it would be a neat thing to scan their work in and show them how they improved in their writing and other skills. I think I will start collecting a piece of their writing every two weeks instead of every month and start scanning them into the computer with their picture. I believe I have time to do that. I will focus on writing this year to start. This way I can understand the assessment process of the portfolio. For personal use my portfolio will be used for career and the masters program.
