A Ring Line for S-trains round the
centre of Copenhagen is being
planned. The line is planned to meet
the need of a transverse connection
between the existing railway lines.
COWI assists The Danish National
Railway Agency with the planning.
The line runs from Hellerup north of
Copenhagen along the periphery of
the city to Sjælør south of Copenha-
gen. The northern part (7 km) already
exists as a part of the Hellerup-Van-
løse S-train line. This section includ-
ing the 6 existing stations need to be
upgraded. The southern part (5 km)
is going to use the existing tracks for
a freight railway line, which shall be
electrified. This section shall include 6
new stations and terminate at the ex-
isting station Sjælør on the Køge
Bugt S-train line.
A major transfer station, Flintholm
will be built where the Ring Line
crosses the Copenhagen Metro and
Project period: 1999 - 2000 the S-train line to Frederikssund.
Client: It is being investigated to built a
Danish National Railway Agency new station, Ny Ellebjerg, as the end
station as an alternative to Sjælør.
This station will be connected to the
Køge Bugt S-train line, and will sub-
stitute three other stations.
The northern part is planned to be
ready in the end of 2002 and the
southern part is planned to open in
two phases in 2003 and 2005. When
the whole line is completed, S-trains
are planned to run at 5 minute inter-
vals in both directions in the rush
