Ladies, gentlemen and children of every age will marvel at
the world-famous Royal Gorge Route Railroad. Step aboard
a living legend where modern comforts are paired with
the amenities of yesteryear. Deep within the granite cliffs
of the Royal Gorge, you will travel alongside the tumbling
waters of the legendary Arkansas River. Dramatic and
beautiful, the Gorge captivates at every turn– each vista
finer than the last. So bend an ear and listen for the
conductor’s call, “All Aboard!” This is a grand train for an
epic adventure, filled with breathtaking sights and a
rolling feast where life-long memories are made for
young and old alike.
HISTORY COMES ALIVE when you RIDE THE RAILS!
One step aboard the Royal Gorge Route Railroad and
you’ve embarked upon a breathtaking journey that started
back in the 1870s. Colorado wasn’t even a state when
word of her magnificent beauty and potential profits
spread like wildfire through a young nation. Now you
can shadow the footsteps of the miners and pioneers
who risked life and limb to scratch out a living in this
rugged place.
“There’s silver in those hills!” was the rallying cry and a
siren song to thousands of wily adventurers who made a
beeline for Leadville. Soon the tiny, high-altitude town
boomed, warranting a train line to the east for needed
supplies and a passenger route.
Like a bar-room brawl on wheels, two railroad companies –
the Denver & Rio Grande and the Santa Fe – vied for the
route. Both companies began construction alongside the
wild and woolly Arkansas River, but the Gorge had only
enough room for one set of tracks. The legal battle,
dubbed the “Royal Gorge War,” began. Once the dust
settled, the Denver & Rio Grande came out the victors!
Now you’re the winner as you make a little history of your own.
WAYS TO EXPERIENCE the ROYAL GORGE
All passengers have access to an open-air car.
Coach Seating
Relax in comfortable seats and enjoy the view of the rugged
granite walls of the Royal Gorge. Among the comforting
clickety-clack of the tracks, you’ll live life at a more relaxed
pace and marvel at a scenic world within the Gorge.
Hungry? Head to the well-outfitted Concession Car and
indulge in any number of goodies or grab a drink in our
classic Lounge Car.
Vista Dome
Look up through these glass-topped domes! You’ll see
birds of prey soaring through the majestic Royal Gorge
as you relax in comfortable seats, courtesy of true
American craftsmanship. Delicious entrées are available
a la carte for breakfast and lunch. Bon appétit!
Cab Ride
Perhaps our most unique offering, this lets the kid in
you ride in the locomotive with a real-live engineer for
the duration of the trip. You’ll get the best view of the
tracks ahead and may even get to blow the whistle.
Engineer cap not included. Boxed lunch available for

First Class Dining
LUNCH
Nothing beats a mid-day cruise and luncheon through the
Royal Gorge. Our chefs combine their skill with the freshest
ingredients to offer a rolling feast. Enjoy your meal in our
classic Dining Car or our Observation Dome Car with views
as remarkable as the food. (Minimum age 3)
DINNER
Climb aboard for the ride of a lifetime, and tuck into a
meal that’s just as memorable. Enjoy a seasonal, freshly
prepared meal in your choice of the classic Dining Car or
the Observation Dome Car. Either way, you’ll have a meal
and a trip you’ll never forget. (Minimum age 8)
SPECIAL EVENTS and LIMITED-EDITION RIDES
Wine Dinners
For a stirring combination of fine dining, fine wines and
the best scenic ride around, our Wine Dinners are the
toast of the season. Indulge in a 5-flight feast paired
with a perfectly matched wine for each portion of the
meal. You’ll be guided through each specially selected
wine and entrée, and you’ll learn how their flavors
complement and enrich each bite as the scenery
enhances the entire evening.
Murder Mystery Dinners
The talented actors of Red Herring Productions take you
on an adventure through the Gorge like you’ve never
experienced before! Enjoy your chef-prepared feast, behold
the beauty of the Gorge and watch your back, as that man
next to you might be the culprit! Figure out ‘who dunnit’ and
experience thrills, chills and the ride of a lifetime!
Oktoberfest Lunch
‘Tis the season to be German! Climb aboard the train and
celebrate the fall, tasty food and scenery that can’t be beat.
From live Polka music to a specially crafted menu to your
very own pint beer glass to take home, an Oktoberfest
ride on the rails is something you won’t soon forget!
Santa Express
The Santa Express train is the answer for this year’s
holiday fun! Get into your PJ’s and hop aboard for a
magical journey into the Gorge, straight to the North Pole –
with a special visit from Santa Claus. Families enjoy classic
Christmas carols over a steaming cup of hot chocolate and
cookies, all the while making memories of cheer that will
last for generations. Enjoy the excitement of the children
as they receive a special gift from Santa. Make your
