Reflective Journal Information 2001-2002 We’re ready to begin working with the reflective journals. For those who have been with the program either as a student or a site instructor, you’ll notice that this year the journals have been condensed. They are still set up so that T3ers can only read their entries and site coaches can read anyone’s entry. For this reason, to the T3ers it may look like nobody else is doing entries, but that is not the case. Step 1: Be sure that all passwords work. We are sending you the passwords and logins and would like you to give them to the T3ers at hands-on and have them record these on their Learner Profile that they started working on earlier in September. To check their passwords they can go to: http://lilinote.k12.hi.us/cid.nsf This website is set up to allow a user to enter their user id and then their password. If they enter the correct one, they get a message saying it’s correct. If they enter the wrong one, they get a message saying it’s wrong. **Really important**. To test more than one person’s id and password from the same computer, you need to QUIT your browser after each successful login. Once you’ve quit you can open up the browser again and try another person. If you have any logins that do not work, please send me their names and I will request them to be redone. Step 2: The T3ers can get to their Reflective Journals by going to the Assessment tab and selecting Reflective Journals. They will need to enter their user id and web password. Once they do, they’ll be taken straight to the journal page and in the upper left hand corner you should see a button that says Journal Entry. Click on Journal Entry and a new blank journal form will open up. Now read the information below carefully. • The date will automatically be entered for them. • They will need to enter their name. • They need to enter the hours they spend in each category. Do not put anything other than numerals in this cells. Have them estimate to the nearest hour.

In each section, they need to write a specific description of what they did during the month. (not minute, by minute, but enough for you to get a feel for how they spent their time. Explain that for now most of the time is spent in contact hours (their learning time), and application hours (their applying in the classroom or their role). Any time spent with saving homework in the t3 folder can be counted either as application or portfolio. It doesn’t matter. Later on we’ll get into more time spent on portfolios. For now it’s ok if there is nothing there. They need to specifically fill out the goal setting and planning sections. They need to respond to the question regarding their own growth during the past month. When finished Press the Submit button. If the entry gets rejected, it is usually because they try to put text where a number should be. Many in the past have put in ?, or hrs and this gets rejected everytime. If more than one person is going to do a journal entry using the same computer, you will need to QUIT the browser and then reopen it so that the new person has to enter his/her user id and password. If they don’t get prompted for this, their entry will go in under the last user’s id.
Step 3: Once they’ve submitted their entry, they need to press the REFRESH or RELOAD button on the browser navigation bar and then their entry should show up. Step 4: If they need to go in and make changes, they can open up the entry and click on Edit in the upper left hand corner of the entry. The window will change to let them make changes. Be sure to press Submit again to save the changes. Step 5: We only want one entry per month, but they can go in and edit that entry as many times during the month as they want to. All journal entries are due on the last day of each month. If for some reason the password doesn’t work, have your T3er let you know so that you can send me the name. Have them look at document 4.15 in the T3 Handbook about Reflective Journals and create a word processed document containing the information asked for. They can send that to you in an e-mail message until we get their password working. It is possible to change their passwords, but since so many of them forget their passwords between the first and second journal dates, I’d like to wait for a while before suggesting this option.
