Deuteronomy 6:5 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15:7 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Rev 3:20 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23 Reasons to Pray: Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. John 15:15, Work together with God For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29, To become like God But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18, To become like God And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. Revelation 5:10 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matt 26:40-41, Not to fall into temptation And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 18:13-14, Justified before God Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24, Ask, receive, joy complete 3 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:2627, For the Holy Spirit to intercede Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16, Receive mercy and find grace By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Mark 1:35, In the morning and a solitary place And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. 47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. Mark 6:46-47, Evening, mountaninside and alone Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Daniel 6:10, Home, upstairs room, three times How to Pray: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matt 6:9-13 4 Confession: Responding to God’s Holiness During this season of confession, ask the Holy Spirit to show you any sin in your life while reading the following scriptures. The areas of possible sin in your life have been divided into sections*: ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Sins of Thought Sins of Attitude Sins of Speech Sins of Relationship Sins of Commission Sins of Omission Sins of Self-Rule and Self Reliance When ever your are shown an area of sin, confess it to God, repent of it, renounce its control in your life and ask the Father to work in you the opposite fruit of the spirit in your life. Please see the included chart as a model. * Please see “References” at the back of this journal for a reference to a more detailed study by Dr Gregory Frizzell’s “Returning to Holiness”. 5 Confession: Responding to God’s Holiness Identify with Him by becoming like Him In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Isaiah 6:1-3, 5-7 And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. 2 Sam 24:10 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens. Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments, Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness. O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this. Ezra 9:6-7, 10-11, 15 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee. Psalm 51:1-4, 7-13 6 O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee. Jeremiah 14:7 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matt 6:12 I confess…I repent of…and renounce it’s control in my life Pride (vanity, arrogance) Envy Greed Lying, deception (vain imaginations, idolatry) Murder (hate) Adultery Unbelief Gossip Robbery Bribery Unforgivness (resentment) Bitterness Sexual immorality Tolerating evil Shifting priority from God Neglecting the needy Self-centeredness (jealousy, rivalry) No fear of God (rebellion, disobedience) Control (disorder) Rejection (insecurity) Perversion of God-intended roles Confusion Apathy (not caring) Ignorance Lust (coveting) Busyness Materialism (greed, worldliness) Anger (hatred, violence) Racism (prejudice) Withdrawal, Disunity Sins of the Fathers Father, work in me the spirit of… Humility Contentment Contentment, Giving Truth Love Purity, Faithfulness, Holiness Belief, Faith Kindness, Encouragement Giving Honesty Forgiveness Forgiveness Holiness Shunning Evil First love for God Love Sacrifice Fear of God Filling of the Spirit Acceptance Submission Godly Wisdom Love Mercy and Truth Holiness Waiting on God Extravagant Generosity Death-to-self Reconciliation and Restoration Trinity, Unity The Cross 7 Sins of Thought Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Mat 7:22-23 (doubt) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 (doubt) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Ro 8:16 (doubt) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2Co 10:5 (unclean thoughts) But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Mt 5:28 (lust) If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Col 3:1-3 (misplaced affection) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Ps 1:2 (misplaced affection) I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Ps 119:15-16 (misplaced affection) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Jas 4:3 (improper motive) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Mt 15:8-9 (insincere worship) I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. Am 5:21-24 (insincere worship) Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Heb 12:14 (pursuit of holiness) And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 1Jo 3:3 (pursuit of holiness) 8 Sins of Attitude I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Re 3:15-16 (no passion for God) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Php 2:3-4 (vainity) Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 1Pe 5:5 (pride) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. Ps 51:17 (pride) My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. Jas 2:1 (prejudice) Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? Jas 2:4 (prejudice) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb 11:6 (worry) With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Eph 4:2 (critical) Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 1Co 13:4, 7 (judgemental, unloving) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Mt 5:44 (judgemental, unloving) But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1Ti 6:6 (materialism, worldliness) And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables; And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. Joh 2:15-17 (materialism, worldliness) 9 Sins of Speech Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Eph 4:29 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. Eph 5:4 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; Col 3:9 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. 1Co 10:10 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1Th 5:18 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: Eph 4:31 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1Co 1:10 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1Ti 5:17 Sins of Relationships – Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Mt 5:23-24 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Mt 6:14-15 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. Mt 18:35 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Heb 10:25 For the body is not one member, but many. 1Co 12:14 10 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Eph 5:23 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; Eph 5:25 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. 1Pe 3:7 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Eph 6:4 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 1Pe 3:3 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Mt 18:6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Eph 6:1-3 Sins of Commission – For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Eph 5:5 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. Eph 5:12 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1Co 3:16-17 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ex 20:2-3 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Mt 7:24 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the 11 windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Mal 3:8-10 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Pr 13:11 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. Le 19:31 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Re 2:14-15 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Ro 14:23 Sins of Omission – Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Joh 15:4-5 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Ac 1:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Eph 4:8 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Ro 6:14 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. Heb 4:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. Jas 3:1 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Jer 29:13 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Jas 5:16 12 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. Jas 1:23-24 Sins of Self-Rule and Self Reliance Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Mt 16:24-25 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. Ro 6:6 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. Joh 12:24 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. Pr 17:3 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2Co 12:9-10 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. This is the purest form of real meditation. 17 Worship/Meditation: A Response to God’s Glory Worship As the heart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:1-2 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. Rev 5:3-4 Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Offer up thanksgiving obediently for all that the Holy Spirit reveals to you. You will be blessed again. 20 Thanksgiving: A Response to God’s Riches O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Psalm 105:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: Eph 1:3-9, 11 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever: And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 136:1,6,23-24,26 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. 1 Chron 29:12-13 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. Rev. 11:17 21 Asking Prayers: Petitions and Intercession Please review the following pages of the overview on praying for others (Intercession) and yourself (Petitions) summarized below: ♦ Reasons God answers prayer ♦ Reasons God does not answer prayer ♦ Principles for asking 22 Asking Prayers: Petitions and Intercession Reasons God answers prayers Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying, Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness. Uphold God’s Honor Num 14:15-16 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. Appeals for God’s Glory John 12:27-28 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. Appeals to God’s Character Num 14:17-19 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only. Acknowledges God’s Sovereignty 2 Kings 19:15,19 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Jesus Prays for you Rom 8:34 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Holy Spirit Prays for and with you Rom 8:26-27 23 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Father-Child Matt 6:9 And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require: That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else. Master-Servant 1 Kings 8:59-60 Reasons God does not answer prayer I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. Anger/Wrath 1 Tim 2:8 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; Broken Relationships Matt 5:23-4, 1 Peter 3:1 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Doubting/Unbelief Heb 3:12, 18-19 24 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. Hypocrisy Matt 6:5 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? Idolatry Ezek 14:3 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. Indifference to need Prov 21:13 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Unforgivness Matt 6:14-15 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. Disobedience 1 john 3:21-22 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Cherished sin Psalm 66:18 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Moral Crookedness Isaiah 59:1-2 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Unbelief Heb 3:12, 18-19 25 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Doubleminded James 1:5:8 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Wrong Motives James 4:2-3 Principles for Asking: In the spirit What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 1 Cor 14:15 According to His will – And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1 John 5:14-15 With the mind – What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 1 Cor 14:15 In Jesus name – If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14:14 26 Abiding in Christ – If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15:7 In faith – And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. Mark 11:22,24 In Humility – If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chron 7:14 In Sincerity – Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16 With Perseverance – Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Eph 6:18 27 Intercession: Asking for others This is a season of praying for others. This outline is sectioned by the days of the week organizing you to pray consistently for people and other concerns. 28 Intercession: Asking for others Identify with Him by participating with Him in His work And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. Ezk 22:30 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Eph 3:16-19 Brethren, pray for us. 1 Thes 5:25 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2 Thes 3:1 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; Rom 15:30 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17 O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee: 1 Chron 29:18 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee, Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from evil. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. John 17:11, 15, 17, 20-23 29 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Rom 10:1 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Eph 3:16-19 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; Col 1:9-12 30 Sunday List: Church Staff & Volunteers Date Description PTL Date 31 Carmel Baptist Church Staff Dr. Wayne Poplin, Senior Pastor Joe Bailey Cindi Baker Dr. Clay Barnes Marilyn Bishop Gina Clark Bruce Coburn Rev. John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent. 2 Peter 3:8-9 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
