A very warm welcome to the school year from the Parents’ Association
The PA’s first meeting of the year has been held, and new class reps, committee and Chair appointed
(as above). Many thanks to all those who volunteered, and an especially warm welcome to new parents.
There is a brief summary of the PA Accounts for the last year attached to this bulletin.

We would like to thank last year’s committee and Chair for their contribution and commitment
throughout the year and the skillful planning and organisation of the hugely successful Summer Fair.

Forthcoming events for your diary
The Cheese and Wine Party is on Thursday 20th October starting at 7.30pm (please
note change to calendar). It is a fun evening and provides a chance for parents and teachers to
get to know one another in an informal setting and allows you to put a name to all the other
faces at pick up time! There will be a collection for our chosen charities during the course of the
evening. (The evening is not intended to be a forum between teachers & parents, as staff are there to
enjoy themselves too!)
The Harvest Festival for the Junior School is being held at 2pm in St Michaels Church on the 14th
October. For this occasion, parents are encouraged to send in produce, no matter how small, to
decorate the church. After the service, the produce is donated to local charities. We will need help
taking the produce to the church and then distributing it to the charities following the Harvest Festival.
If you can help, please contact Sally Watson on highgatepa@hotmail.com There is also a Harvest
Celebration for the Pre-Prep School on the 20th October when children are encouraged to send produce
to decorate the Pre-Prep hall.
A brand new event this year is the Christmas Gift Fair on Friday 2nd December , 8am-11am
in the Dining Hall. Over 25 stalls will sell everything from handmade bags and jewellery to table
decorations and unique cards, as well as luxury festive baked goods. £2 entry (free coffee & pastries!).

Anyone interested in a stall or helping on the day please contact Claire Hilton on
highgatepa@hotmail.com
Once again we are taking part in the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal. This involves filling
decorated shoeboxes with small gifts and sending them as Christmas presents to poor and needy
children in Central and Eastern Europe, Mozambique and Indonesia. The boxes are distributed regardless
of religious belief and following discussions to ensure that no offence is given. Please look out for the
information leaflets that the children will be bringing home. Anyone willing to help check boxes prior to
the Samaritans collection for 1-2 hours, please contact Carolyn Purves on 020 8348 6850.

Nominations for charities for this year
The PA, children and teachers each nominate a charity to support every year. Last year the
three charities selected were Kenyan Orphan Project (PA), Pump Aid (Children) and Theodora
Children’s Trust (Teachers). The PA usually selects an internationally based children’s charity
to support - traditionally one with links to someone at the school. We need nominations for
charities you may wish to put forward for this year (please supply a brief synopsis of the charity).
Nominate a charity by email to highgatepa@hotmail.com, or submit your ideas to
http://www.highgatepa.org.uk/junior/charitiesvote.php.

Summary of fundraising last year
The PA had a successful year of fundraising (and funraising!). The Summer Fair raised £8,374 after costs,
leading to a surplus for the year of just over £12,000. Some money is kept back for ‘seed’ funding for
events in the coming year, and below is a summary of how funds have been donated to charities.
