READING AND WRITING JOURNAL Throughout the course of this semester you will be required to keep a reading and writing journal. You should work on this journal for the first 15 to 20 minutes of our double classes. The journal entries and readings should be kept in order in your literacy portfolio. Reading requirements: You must find, read, and respond to each of the following genres throughout the semester: A magazine article from MACLEAN’S An editorial from the BRANDON SUN or WINNIPEG FREE PRESS An article of interest to you from the CBC website A front page news story from a daily paper A movie or music review Your own choice
Use the reading response form for each response and submit the assignment in the following order: Response form Article read Your written response All should be placed in your duo-tang or binder. Writing requirements Choose from any five of the following to write a two-page journal. If the piece of writing does not meet the two page requirement, you may do any writing of your own choice to complete the two pages. This may be typed or hand-written. A poem based on your favorite quote A detailed description of a hand you know well A narrative about a time your favourite toy came to life An obituary for an inanimate object A piece of writing designed to make the audience feel uplifted A conversation between two earth worms following a rain storm A news story based on you ten years from now Your own choice
