                                   TOPIC: LAW AND SOCIETY
TOPIC LENGTH: 20 HOURS YEAR: 10

CHRISTIAN RATIONALE
The Ten Commandments (Exodus20:1-17) raises issues such as should Christians influence
the law or merely obey the law. The Bible reports that from the time of Creation, God
expected humanity to be good stewards of His beautiful environment, and to remember Him
as creator. Because sin entered the earth, there is much human misery when human needs are
not met. It is the Christian‟s responsibility to help the needy and to be of the service to the
community (Matthew 25:34-36). Micah 6:8 gives direction for people to live together – “He
has shown you O man (people) what is good. And what does the law require of you? To act
justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

FOCUS
Students develop an understanding of how laws affect individuals and groups and regulate
society.
