UGARTECHEA How do you feel about this manufacturer? A friend of mine is looking for a 20 ga sxs for quail over dogs, it was recommended by a mutual friend that owns one in 28 ga. I have always stayed away from spanish guns after shooting some loose ayas in the early 80's. He thinks he wants a single trigger as well. Thanks, Bill Houston, TX Dear Bill, I wish I had a concise, coherent answer for you about Ugartecheas, but I don't. Historically, Ugartechea was one of the three major makers of Spain, but like all the others it has gone through fat and lean times. AyA went through similar growth and shrinkage. Also, like all the other Basque makers, Ugartechea made/makes a wide variety of guns. So, it depends on what you get and when it was made. Two of the current Ugartechea vendors in the US are http://www.aspenoutfitting.com/shotgunsales.htm http://www.doubleshotguns.com/ugartechea.htm My general rule of thumb on Spanish guns, especially now that the Euro is so high, is that if they cost the same, they are the same. A $5,000 Ugartechea equals a $5,000 AyA equals a $5,000 Arrieta, etc. This makes sense when you consider that so much of the work is outsourced to the same companies, ie barrels, forging, etc. Since they are all copies of English designs, models don't change much maker to maker. The best information on Ugartecheas and Spanish guns in general is in Terry Weiland's book "Spanish Best". I'm sure Amazon can find it. As to the single trigger, that's always risky. The Spanish copy the English in most aspects of SxS design and the English have never designed a really good single trigger. If I had to have a single trigger SxS I'd look Turkish at the decent lower end (the very nice S&W Gold Elite), Galazan RBL in the middle and Italian through out the range. Not English or Spanish.
