What Others Are Saying About Shari Braendel

"I am a professional event planner and met Shari Braendel at “She Speaks” Proverbs 31 Ministry
conference. I attended Shari‟s session on “What Not to Wear” and came out of her workshop with a greater
degree of confidence in my dress and personal presentation as a speaker. At that point, I did not hear
Shari‟s testimony but was very impressed by her teaching on body types, color, fashion and what I had
heard. I learned more about Shari‟s What Not to Wear fashion shows and outreach ministry by talking to a
women‟s ministry director from Coleman, Michigan, whom already had booked Shari to come to her
community.
I attended this What Not to Wear event in Coleman last fall with 17 other ladies from our congregation.
That day, I had the opportunity to hear Shari‟s testimony for the first time. Her story was powerful and had
such wide spread appeal for everyone who attended with us. Shari was able to weave into her message how
a woman‟s outer dress and care for herself, no matter what her age, can reveal a lot about her heart and
ultimately her identity in Christ. We left Coleman with Shari‟s contact information and drove the whole way
home talking about the impact of such a unique outreach. We contacted our pastors and elder board as
soon as we got home and within two weeks, we had reserved Shari to speak.. We did an “Early Bird Sale”
on our tickets as Shari suggested and marketed ourselves as “A Beautiful Event for our Communities.” We
were SOLD OUT before our sale was over, but didn‟t know it. Tickets were being snatched up all over our
community. The count came back and we were over booked. We quickly contacted Shari and contracted
with her and the Proverbs 31 Ministry to do an evening “Teen Edition” to help meet the demand for tickets
and space.
We had over 750 women between our two events. And we had 49 women (ages 8-50 + yrs.) acknowledge
that they prayed the prayer with Shari for Salvation. An additional 69 women gave a commitment of purity
as well as hundreds of confessions of deep sin and hurt. This was the largest evangelistic outreach our
church has seen! Our pastors, board elders, churchwomen, sponsors, vendors, attendees, and community
are buzzing about the awe of this event. God willing, we will be booking Shari for another event in
September of 2010.
In closing, I just want to share what one gal wrote:
“I have wanted to commit suicide more than one time because I did not like myself and thought I was
ugly, but not anymore… not after hearing Shari. Thanx”
Those are the words of one lost and hurting woman that keeps Shari Braendel focused. Shari has a message
of deep compassion that I have seen touch hundreds of women‟s lives not just in our small community, but
beyond. I can only imagine the impact of Shari‟s ministry and outreach as she presses on.
Sarah Le Holmes, New Hope Community Church

"Shari is honest, engaging, funny, energetic and practical! She is the tell-it-like-it-is best friend every
woman wishes she had! Shari meets you where you are and makes you feel good about starting from that
place and inspires you not to stay there!
I heartily recommend my good friend Shari to each and every woman who ever uttered the phrase, 'how
does this look?' and really wanted to know!”
Kristina Gray, Director of the Arts, Mecklenburg Community Church

"As a middle age woman who was starting to question her appearance, Shari gave me the tools to bring
back the swing in my step. I feel like Cinderella with Shari, my fairy godmother."
JoLynn Hamlin, Denver Baptist Church, Denver, NC

"Girl, you and your ministry are such a blessing!! Between the compliments on my "new" colors, and
knowing that my thighs are loaded with God's fingerprints, I can't stop smiling!! I appreciate you and
Proverbs 31 ... may God continue to bless you and your wonderful ministry!! I look forward to seeing you
again soon!!":
Donna Rodwell, Kinston, NC
"From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for speaking this past Friday night at the Pajama Party for
New Life 91.9! My girlfriends and I had a BLAST for the second year in a row and enjoy you more every
year! You are a beautiful woman that we all look up to. We are planning a shopping trip next week to use
the tips that you gave us. Thanks for putting a new twist on the wardrobe of us "soccer moms" without a
clue!"
Christy King, Kings Mtn, NC

"Shari's professionalism, expertise and humor are the perfect combination to assist women in striking the
perfect balance with their image and wardrobe. Shari‟s workshop helped me to reflect confidence, grace,
and beauty."

do. May God continue to bless your ministry."

"I could not have been more pleased with your role at our women's retreat!!! The women really enjoyed the
fun you brought to the event. Women come to the retreat to be fed spiritually AND enjoy the fellowship and
"girly girl" moments. How much better does it get than to have a fun, friendly, warm, knowledgeable lady
providing tips on dressing for body styles, color analysis, hair color, accessorizing, etc.
Your commitment in ensuring that all 150 women received a personal color consultation really wowed me -
thanks for being flexible to work them all in. I would be happy to recommend you to any church or
professional organization! "
Wendy McKewen, Women's Ministry Director, Langston Baptist Church

"As the "Mentor Mom" I'm always interested to see these young mothers encouraged as well as being
entertained. Your ability to involve the audience and your warm, relational manner were captivating.
Without a doubt, it was the BEST MOPS meeting we have had all year! Thank you for a wonderful
program."
Dwain Bouldin, Mentor Mom, Carmel Baptist MOPS group

"I thoroughly enjoyed the seminar at Austin Grove ... I mostly enjoyed it because I had brought my mom
who needed a good laugh and that in itself was very uplifting..."
Stacie Cato, Information Services Specialist, Wadesboro, NC

"Thank you for all you do for Christ! Your attitude and message are directly from Him. You brought it when
He called you. Thank you for obeying His call.
Jennifer Whitley, Austin Grove Baptist Church

"You're just what this Miami girl needed, not only in my outward appearance but my inside as well ... thank
you!"
Toni Sims, Austin Grove Baptist Church

"I just wanted to let you know how much I'm loving your class! You are the big sister I never had to give me
all the dressing advice I desperately need! Thanks for all you do and share."
Jennice Owensby Hatcher, Charlotte, NC
"God has given you a passion to help women become great in who they are. It was nice to hear that we
need to be happy with where we are now and how God has made us that way. I wanted to say Thank You
for the great time."
Denise Dize, Carmel Baptist Wee School Teacher

"Thank you for such a wonderful evening. The women are still talking about it - you are such a wealth of
information and I've seen many ladies strutting the "new them". You've given them a confidence to who they
are in the body that God gave them!"
Sheila Konitzer, Women's Ministry Director, Legacy Christian Church

"Shari‟s seminar content and personal charisma is a hot commodity for women! Her “What Not to Wear”
workshop was one of our most popular sessions and we‟ve already planned to have her back next year.
While reminding us that true beauty comes from within, Shari encouraged women to take the gift God
created them to be and wrap it in a beautiful package! "
Renee Swope, Speaking Ministry Director, Proverbs 31 Ministries

"Shari, you possess a natural ability to positively convey to women of all body types and styles how to
accept, improve, and be content with the outer image that God has gifted them with and successfully teach
women practical tips and techniques to help accomplish this purpose. On a personal note, you were a
joy to host, and encouraged me greatly in my faith journey as a woman in Christian leadership today."
Shari Edwards, Director, Park Hill Baptist Church, North Little Rock , AR

"I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for providing us with ... this program. I sat in the back and
translated for the mothers and the girls sat up in the front row. Two of the girls were able to come on stage
and one said she would have loved to be one of the models. The mothers were amazed at the information
you were able to provide and one was in tears as she thanked me for bringing her to the program. So, just
wanted to let you know God certainly used the program in 9 lives and I was privileged to watch it.
Abraya Johnson, Solomon House

"My friends and I loved your Modest is Hottest event (I KNEW they would)! Kathy said that her daughter
could not stop talking about it all weekend. She kept asking, "Mom, is my necklace to close to my bosom?"
Then she finally said "Mom, where exactly is my bosom?" Too cute!!!!"
Leah, Mecklenburg Community Church

"I wanted to tell you how much fun we all had last night at Hickory Grove!! What a great Mother/Daughter
evening--so inspiring, from the great tips for dress to the encouragement of honoring God with our bodies--
you did a fabulous job!! My daughter, Karah, said it was the most fun she ever had!! Thanks again for
such an inspiring evening and for your love and dedication for our teenagers!"
Kathy and the Girls from Mooresville, NC

"Your workshop was such an inspiration not only to me, but all the ladies that were at my table. I cannot
wait to unleash this new woman that is excited to be set free! Finding the perfect jeans and bra to fit in 1
day, tell me that is not as close to heaven as a woman can get!!!"
Pam Morgan, Charlotte, NC
"I just wanted to thank you so much for sharing your gift and your testimony with us as you are truly so
talented at what you do. Not to mention, you offer such a beautiful example of what Christ can do in the
lives of His children if we simply allow Him in. As I'm sure you touched many hearts last night, you
certainly touched mine and it was the pep talk I have been in need of for a while. Thank you again for all
the tips and most importantly for sharing your story!"
Kelli Mayhorn, Mecklenburg Community Church, Charlotte, NC

"Thank you for the amazing workshop ... what an awesome job you did!! I'm sure my name doesn't ring a
bell, but I was the one who purchased your last "Clear" swatches ... and what a difference color has
already made!! Pointing out that even though we shared the same hair and skin coloring, showing how my
beige sweater washed me out compared to my girlfriend's fuchsia sweater, made a believer out of me!! I
had no idea the impact color can have!! Sunday (at church) and yesterday (at work), I wore a fuchsia top
over a black dress and got raving compliments. Today I have on a bright, turquoise sweater set with a
black skirt and I am thrilled and amazed at the number of compliments I have already received. One co-
worker even commented that she never noticed I had bluish eyes before! Thank you Shari!! What a
wonderful ministry you share!!
Donna Rodwell, Westminster United Methodist Church, Kinston, NC

I really enjoyed the time we had with you. You are truly a witness for us, all ladies to realize that God has
made us like we are, we should accept and realize not matter our size or shape we are one of God\'s
beautiful creation. I have recommended to our ladies fellowship committee to consider having you to come
to our next enrichment day. I attend First Baptist Church, Concord. N.C. Looking forward to seeing and
hearing you again. Thanks for your ministry.

"I would like to comment to you about the event that we held in Nov. 2008 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
We called our event the „Real Beauty Retreat‟. Those attending were girls 5th grade through any adult age
woman. We had an amazing turn out and the following weeks we heard many positive comments from those
that attended and many others that wished they would have brought there co-workers with them!
The „What Not to Wear‟ segment of Shari‟s speaking is something that is so needed in our world and yes,
even in our secluded area in Iowa! Ladies are going to the work places with too short skirts, too tight pants
and blouses, and too much skin (cleavage) showing. Girls are watching TV and looking at adult women
and they see what is happening and so they start dressing inappropriately as early as middle school. The
girls start seeking approval in the wrong ways, in ways that they will not get respect and soon they don‟t
even feel good about themselves. We have seen in our area that when gals and women do not feel good
about themselves they have very low self-esteem. This causes women and gals to think that they are
worthless and before anyone can feel good about anyone or even love others, they must first love
themselves—putting God first.
Shari not only TOLD us how to dress, she actually used examples from the audience. She would use
„examples‟ by taking several ladies on stage with her and then show good choices in color, fit, size, etc. and
some that could be improved. Shari did this all in such a fun way that everyone was excited to be a part of
the show! Everything that Shari discussed really helped all of us. (It is so much easier to see by example
than to just hear).
The one thing that stood out to me in Shari‟s talk was how to dress very fashionably and modestly at the
same time. How beautiful is that! With her DVD interviews we were able to hear just what the opposite sex
feels about seeing too much and that really sent a message to every person who attended. God has created
us all beautiful inside. We have a choice with what we want to do with that beauty. Shari says “let‟s wrap
it up in a beautiful package”. I wish every woman and girl could hear Shari‟s message. Perhaps she could
go on global TV so every woman that God created would be able to feel good about themselves and know
they are beautiful!
Shari is a very loving, caring and honest person. And the way she speaks and tells others how to dress is
done in a fun and easy to follow way. Just by entering a room, Shari already portrays the fact that you are
beautiful. She makes all women feel this way and she honestly believes it. I will always be grateful that
God opened the doors for Shari to come and bless me and our community.
If you have any questions concerning our event or Shari, I would love to talk with you. Thank you.

"As a Christian I had heard a lot about being beautiful on the inside yet Shari brought the need for the
inside and outside beauty together in a way I had never heard before. Her unique ability to help us see
ourselves as we really are is done in a way that helps women be comfortable with changing some things
without feeling threatened or put down. Shari's sense of humor and deep compassion for sharing Christ
with others draws them to Him.
As a pastor's wife, I knew I wanted to share Shari and her message with the women at our church. As event
coordinator I needed a speaker and Shari said "yes"! I began to tell our women and girls about our theme
and the response was overwhelming. I had hit a chord with the ladies touching a need in their lives I didn't
even know existed!
When Shari came and shared her "What Not To Wear" session with us we had so much fun yet learned so
much. It was really a time of bonding for our women. For months afterwards I would hear the women
talking about the beauty tips Shari had shared and I also saw the results in many of their lives. Their
confidence about themselves had increased in a God-honoring way.
Shari helped us so much that we wanted to share her message with our community. That September, we
hosted a "Modest Is Hottest" Fashion Show for teens. We tripled our former attendance in May with a
whole new audience. Once again Shari shared "What Not To Wear" and talked to the girls and their
mothers about the need for modesty in our world today. She also gave her awesome testimony of how God
had changed her life and brought her out of the beauty and fashion industry into His work to draw others to
Him.
I am so glad Shari wrote her ideas down in her "If Clothes Could Talk" book. I could not possibly
remember everything she said but now I can refer to her written words all the time! It helps me have a plan
and not flounder when it comes to my wardrobe and saves me money too since I don't buy things now that
don't work for me or that I don't really need. This is a message all women can identify with in today's
economy! I highly recommend her much needed ministry and words to and for the world of Christian
women and beyond."
Lucy Wilson, Pastor's wife & Women's Events Coordinator, 1st Baptist Church, China Grove, NC

"Thank you so much. My girls have told me so many things I am doing wrong, ie; last night at soccer
banquet I was told, after I was there, that my jeans were too tight. They have had some neat talks with my
Mom about what they learned and funny inside jokes about the conference. Thanks, they all had so much
fun and a great time of learning. From what I am gleaning it sounds like they hung on every word. You put
on a huge event and God‟s message was proclaimed! That‟s neat! Thank you!"
