Welcome to Moodle “Moodle or Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment is a course management software programme. It allows educational Institutions to provide a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to deliver and manage online courses, but more importantly it allows Students access to courses through the Internet.” How do I use Moodle? 1. You use your Cornwall College computer network username and password to login to Moodle. Your account is automatically created the very first time you login to Moodle. You must activate your college network account first. This can be done by logging on to college computers* using the username and password provided by your lecturer. 2. You must then change your password and agree to the Acceptable Use Policy. Once you have logged in you can either self enrol on your course (please see page 2) or your lecturers can enrol you. You can then access Moodle from any computer/device with internet connection. * Initial activation can also be carried out from home via the web link: http://pwd.cornwall.ac.uk you should enter: ccgstudents\your.username in the account box, eg ccgstudents\08ABC.BLOGGSF and your date of birth in the format dd/mm/yyyy as the old password. Your new password must be at least 6 characters. See page 5 on instructions for this. Where can I access Moodle? You can access Moodle from the link on the College Intranet when using College computers. Click on the link to Moodle you will see in the centre of the screen.
Can I access Moodle from my home computer? Yes, this is the beauty of Moodle; it enables you to keep up-to-date with your course when you are away from College. Simply, connect to the Internet and type the web address in your browser: http://virtual.cornwall.ac.uk (Do not put www in front of the address and note that it is ac.uk and not co.uk) You should now see the Moodle homepage, similar to the one shown below.

How do I log in? At the top left of the Moodle homepage there is a login box. Login with your normal College network login and password, (don’t forget if you have changed your password you should use the password you have created). The first time you do this, Moodle will automatically create an account for you. Your College network account will enable you to access Moodle in or outside of College. If your tutor has already enrolled you on the course, you will see the course in your list of courses. If you tutor has not already enrolled you on the course, you will have to self enrol. How to self enrol on your courses: If you know the name of your course you can enter it in the search box below the map at the bottom left of the Moodle homepage. The example shown relates to the Combined Social Science Degree. To self-enrol on a course, simply log into Moodle with your username and password. Use the course search box(bottom left of screen) to find your course by entering: some key words (your lecturer will help here). You will need to wait a while but will then see a list of all the courses Moodle has found containing the key words („combined social‟ in this case) in their title.
When you see the course you are looking for, click on the title of the course. Enter the enrolment key as provided by your lecturer, then click on „enrol me on this course‟.
You will then enter the course. You will also receive an automatic email from the course tutor, welcoming you to the course. This will go to the email address linked to your Moodle account (by default this is your college e-mail).

Once you have entered the course, you can explore the features and resources available and work through at your own pace, to familiarise yourself with Moodle. If you do not find the course you are looking for, by using the search facility, click on the campus logo relevant to where you are studying. This will display the list of categories for that campus, click on a category to display a list of courses.

Select the course on which you wish to enrol
You will be asked for an enrolment key, this is a password which your tutor will be able to supply.
Other things When you next login to Moodle you will see your courses listed on the left hand side of your screen under „My courses‟. This will grow as you enrol on more module courses. Every registered user has a profile which you can access and modify by clicking on your name wherever it appears in blue (e.g. top right of the screen). You will notice that users can be identified by a 'picture', you can modify yours here too if you wish. The e-mail address linked to your account is also included in your profile and you can change that here too. If you make any changes to your profile will need to enter something in the city/town field. Don't forget to click 'update' profile when you have finished. One of the features of Moodle is that postings to 'discussions' or 'forums' can be optionally sent to course members by e-mail. This is excellent for alerting course members to news and events etc. You will instantly recognise such e-mails from your course as their 'subjects' will start with the short name of the course – you can see this at the top left of your screen immediately to the right of „Cornwall‟. This is SocSciDeg for the course described above. To find out more about Moodle you can access the „Student Guide to using Moodle‟ and other help sheets under the main menu on the Moodle homepage.
