2006–07 Women’s Community Leadership Grants

What are the Women’s Community Leadership Grants?
The Women’s Community Leadership Grants support individuals, groups or organisations to undertake activities that develop women’s leadership skills and provide innovative solutions to help women in the community. Grants are available up to $2,000 for individuals, and up to $5,000 for groups or organisations, in six project areas.
Who can apply?
Individuals or groups of women who are Victorian residents and are aged 18 years or over, and Victorian organisations with a focus on women’s issues may apply for one of the six project areas listed below. Project Area General Women’s Health and Wellbeing Emergency Management Rural and Regional Women Family Violence Education, Work and Economic Independence Who can apply? Open to all women, groups of women and organisations. Open to all women, groups of women and organisations from the health and wellbeing sector. Open to all women, groups of women and organisations from the emergency management sector. Open to women or groups of women who work and/or live in rural and regional Victoria. Open to volunteers, employees and organisations from the family violence sector. Open to volunteers and employees from the education and training sector.
What type of projects might be funded?
Successful projects will develop women’s leadership skills and benefit women in the community. Preference will be given to projects that support: • • • • Women working to improve the cultural and civic life of the community; Improve social, learning, recreational, employment and economic opportunities for women; Build stronger, more capable organisations or networks of women; and, Have potential to deliver ongoing benefits for women in the community, from one of the following groups: women with disabilities; Indigenous women; culturally and linguistically diverse women; older women; and young women. • Development of women’s networks; • Women’s organisational development; and, • Mentoring programs.
Examples of projects may include: • Skills development and leadership training for women; • Activities which encourage women’s participation and the development of partnerships;
What will not be be funded?
The Women’s Community Leadership Grants will not fund: • • • • Requests for retrospective funding where projects have already commenced or have been completed; Requests seeking funding for ongoing studies or courses (e.g. HECS fees); Requests seeking funding to supplement the recurrent or ongoing costs of an existing organisation; and, Requests that have recurrent cost implications.
Fees for the hire of skilled or professional labour for specialist work are counted as a project cost, rather than as a salary cost.
What are the funding conditions?
The following conditions will apply to projects that receive a grant: • • • • • The grant recipient (or funds manager) must enter into a funding agreement with the Department for Victorian Communities (DVC) which sets out the conditions and reporting requirements. The project must commence by December 2006. Any unspent funds must be returned to DVC. Funds must be spent on the project as described in the application. Any variation to the approved project must be submitted to DVC for approval prior to implementation.
What is the application process?
Applications will be assessed using the questions Why (15%), How (15%), Who (10%) and What will it achieve (60%) found in the attached Application form. The weightings give an indication of the importance of each criterion and priority will be given to applications that are strongly aligned with the assessment criteria.

Why do you want to do this project? Demonstrate how your project will strengthen the leadership capacity and skills of women. How will you carry out the project? Describe the methods you will use to undertake the project and how these methods will provide innovative solutions to support women in the community. Who will be involved in the project? Explain who will be involved and their role in the project. Include organisations and network partnerships. What are the ongoing values and benefits of this project to the community? Describe in terms of the increased opportunities for women in culture and civic life. For example: improved social, economic, network and learning opportunities.

Applications must be submitted by 5.00pm on Monday 1 May 2006. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Receipt of applications will be acknowledged in writing by Monday 22 May 2006.
