Signature Automotive Limited Takes Over the UK Franchise for MasterCraft Boats
Signature Automotive Limited set up by MD Michael Hardicker in 2005 offering specialist
servicing to MG Rover customers in the area as well as competitively priced servicing for all makes
and models of vehicles. The business over the past 4 years has moved forward to offer specialist
servicing for BMW & Mini drivers as well as the addition of a Vehicle Contract Hire and Leasing
Michael and his family have been lifelong water sport enthusiasts and customers of MasterCraft
Boats and in 2008 the opportunity arose to take over the UK franchise for MasterCraft Boats.
MasterCraft was founded in 1968 when it built its first ski boat in a two-stall horse barn on a farm
in Maryville, Tennessee. Dissatisfied with the large wakes and pull of other ski boats, MasterCraft
builders designed a hull that had the smallest wake in the industry; smooth and low at slalom and
jump speeds; well defined at trick speeds.
In its first year of operation, MasterCraft only built 12 boats. MasterCraft now has a single
manufacturing facility located in Vonore, Tennessee where it employs over 560 people.
MasterCraft is now by far the largest producer of inboard skiing, wakeboarding, luxury
performance powerboats in the world. It sells boats in over 30 different countries and there are
over 120 domestic and international dealers.
In order to accommodate the new venture the company’s substantial business premises
located at Clifton Business Park on Preston New Road, Clifton have been refurbished to provide
an extensive showroom for the MasterCraft products as well as a fully equipped workshop and
The expansion of the company’s activities have also enabled the company to become a true
family affair with Michael’s parents Peter and Linda Hardicker coming into the company to provide
administrative and boat servicing support.
Peter Hardicker, who previously ran a company for many years maintaining and servicing
boats, will manage the servicing function of MasterCraft Boats and Michael will head sales and
The family’s long association with MasterCraft Boats has been warmly received by UK customers.
In January 2009 the company attended the London Boat Show and some pictures of the stand
together with the boats are situated below this article.
The Boat Show was a great success with 6 boat sales and a large amount of activity to follow up
Michael Hardiker said:-
“ We are delighted to have been appointed as the UK dealer for MasterCraft Boats.”
“ We believe our experience and passion for the brand will enable us to continue the growth in to the
future and provide the level of commitment to support and after sales care expected by our customers.”
“ We had no hesitation in seeking Haleys guidance in relation to the commercial aspects of
taking over the MasterCraft franchise and we have been very pleased with the advice provided in
relation to the accounting, taxation and legal implications of the new venture. Haleys came up
with a number of clearly explained commercial structures for us to consider and they then gave
us their recommendations which we were more than happy to accept.”
“ We are now looking for a very busy 2009 for both sides of the business. On the vehicles side
servicing & repairs income is on the increase and our car contract leasing division is also doing
well. On the MasterCraft Boat side the Boat Show has given us a great start to 2009 and sales,
servicing and enquiries are above our business plan predictions for 2009.”
“ We look forward to working closely with Haleys in the future building a profitable and valuable
company whilst at the same time having a lot of fun!”
