                        Information for Delegates
Arriving in Bath

( If you are arriving by train then it is best to
get a taxi to the campus. See below for details regarding the location of
accommodation and where to collect keys.

Please note: the restaurants and bars will be closed on Sunday evening. So, it is best
to either eat on your way to Bath or eat in Bath before travelling up to the campus. Of
course, there are many good restaurants in Bath!

All internal areas are designated as non-smoking. The Parade is also non-smoking in
its entirety. Smoking is permitted in open areas, sited well away from buildings. (As a
general guide, areas more than 4 metres from any building). Smoking is also
permitted in designated areas near buildings. The location of designated smoking
areas will be indicated by signs. Special events may prohibit smoking in external
areas on grounds of safety.

Warning – if you set off a fire alarm through smoking then the University will be
charged £1000 and will pass this on to you!

The University Security Office is located in the Library, on the main Parade, and is
manned 24 hours a day. All security staff are trained in First Aid. In an emergency
they can be contacted from any internal University phone by dialling 666. For non-
emergencies they can be contacted on extension 5349, or 01225 385349.

The Campus
Please see the campus map ( All
accommodation is in Polden Court (on the left of the campus map) and the meetings
and registration are in building 6W (to the right of the West Car Park).

If you get lost on campus, you can ask directions either to the place you are trying to
get to or to security.

Collecting Keys
Bedroom keys are to be collected from the Accommodation Services Centre, which is
located in front of the Westwood Accommodation (this is building 13 on the campus
map), during opening hours:

                            Monday to Friday 08:30 to 22:00
                         Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 22:00

You can visit the office or call on extension 5883 from an internal phone or 01225
385883 for any enquiries you may have.

For arrival outside the Accommodation Services Centre opening hours, room keys can
be collected from the Security Office (open 24 hours) located in the Library, on the
main Parade.

Registration and Meals
Registration is on Monday morning, in W61.24, 8:45-9:15am. Here ‘W6’ denotes the
building ‘Wessex 6’ (please see the Campus Map). Breakfast is 8am-9am in Wessex
Restaurant, which is in Wessex house on Level 2 (all meals are in Wessex

Public Transport
There is a regular bus service from the University bus stop to the city centre. The
Bright Orange Bus, number 18 or 418, is the most frequent and quickest bus service
to and from the city centre. The train station is a 5 min walk from the city centre bus
station. The Bright Orange operates:

     Monday to Friday runs from 07:40 until 22:55 approximately every 15mins
        Saturday runs from 07:40 until 22:55 approximately every 20mins
       Sunday runs from 08:55 until 22:55 and approximately every 30mins

Sports Facilities
The University of Bath caters for elite athletes and people of all abilities alike, and
many of its facilities are open to the public. The University has two swimming pools,
a 50 metre pool which is located in the Sports Training Village (STV) and a 25m pool
which is behind Founders Hall. These are both available for use by members of the
public (including delegates!) at certain times, for further information and timings
please contact the STV reception on 01225 386339.

Informal Hospitality & Campus Facilities
For delegates arriving outside of the times for the pre-booked catering there are
informal eating areas available on campus:

The Parade Bar
Located on The Parade Level 2, this fully licensed bar offers a wide selection of food
and snacks throughout the day and is open as follows:
                          Monday to Friday 11:00 to 23:00
                  Saturday & Sunday: Closed until further notice

Dolche Vita
An espresso bar located on The Parade Level 2 next to the Fresh Shop. The café is
open for breakfast and light snacks, speciality teas and coffees at the following times:
                           Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00
                          Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 16:00

Blues Café
Situated in the hub of the STV, the Blues Café is a contemporary café serving
breakfast, light snacks and baguettes through to early evening meals, with a healthy
slant. There is also a licensed bar.
               Monday to Friday 08:00 to 21:00 (food served until 18:00)
             Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 19:30 (food served until 17:30)

Wireless Access and public PCs
Delegates can access the wireless network from their personal laptops in a number of
social areas (bars & restaurants) across campus using a BUCS username and
password account that will be provided. Personal laptops must have a wireless card to
access the Internet and be configured to the university network. See for details.

Public PCs are available on-campus and can be used by conference delegates, using
their BUCS username and password, which can also be used in. Access to the PCs is
on a first come, first served basis and cannot be guaranteed.

Health & Safety Information

The University is committed to securing a healthy and safe environment for staff,
students and visitors.

In the event of a fire:
     The alarm bell will sound
     Delegates are asked to leave via the nearest escape route to the nearest
        assembly point. Your event co-ordinator will point these out to the organiser
        on arrival.
     Assembly points and other emergency procedures are posted in strategic

     Fire extinguishers are located in strategic places throughout the building –
        please take note of their locations.
     The fire alarms are tested every Wednesday. The alarm will sound for less
        than 10 seconds and no action is required.
