                          Ridgewood ES prepares to celebrate Read Across America Week
                          Several activities will be held during Read Across America Week (March 2-6) to celebrate
                          literacy at Ridgewood Elementary School, 10100 SW Inglewood St.

District Goal:            On Monday, March 2, author Deborah Hopkinson will visit the school and a family literacy
                          night has been planned. On Tuesday, March 3, a Guest Reader Day has been scheduled.
                          In addition, library “read-ins” will be held March 3-6 at the school.

                          Andrew Dorn and Siddharth Moghe will receive the prizes during a special presentation at
                          11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3 at the school, 14141 NW Laidlaw Road.

                          Gerard hid one of five keys at Parkrose Middle School when he was in the Portland area this
                          winter promoting his third book in the Conor and the Crossworlds series. Fans of the series,
                          including students at Stoller Middle School, were following treasure hunt clues on Gerard’s
                          web page in search of the five keys hidden in different parts of the country in special wooden
                          boxes.

ACMA’s performing arts center groundbreaking set for March 12
The public is invited to attend a groundbreaking event for ACMA’s new performing arts
educational building from 2:45-3:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the school, 11375 SW
Center Street.

Festivities will be held on the front lawn area facing Center Street.

Oregon’s Battle of the Books to be held March 14 at Jesuit HS
Oregon’s Battle of the Books regional competition will include students from 41 Beaverton
schools (grades 3-9) who will compete on Saturday, March 14 at Jesuit High School, 9000
S.W. Beaverton Hillsdale Highway.

The program celebrates literacy and reading by challenging student teams to read and
answer questions about selected books in a quiz show format. More than 233 schools in
Oregon participate in Oregon Battle of the Books.

Public invited to TAG Community Table Talk Sessions on March 19
The Beaverton School District’s Talented & Gifted (TAG) Project Team is hosting “Community
Table Talk” Sessions in each region on Thursday, March 19. The sessions will be held from
6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the following locations:

Aloha High School
18550 SW Kinnaman Road

Beaverton High School
13000 SW 2nd St.

Meadow Park Middle School
14100 SW Downing St.

Westview High School
4200 NW 185th Ave.

In small groups, the members of the TAG Project Team (along with TAG Facilitators as
needed) will facilitate a guided discussion with community members addressing key ques-
tions identified by the Project Team to assist work on the District TAG Philosophy/Position
Paper.

Daycare will be provided for parents at no charge who wish to attend the session at Aloha
