XboxVGA Video Setup Guide By Ken Gasper QUICK INSTRUCTIONS Press: A, B, D, D, A, D, D, D, A, D, A, L, A, B, B A = A button B = B button D = Down on 8-way directional pad L = Left on 8-way directional pad DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS Plug the XboxVGA adapter into the A/V Input/Output port on the back of the Xbox. With one controller plugged in power the Xbox on. When the Xbox is first powered on, it will be in one of two states. It will either be displaying the root Dashboard menu or if it’s been unplugged for more than a couple hours it will be displaying the Set Time and Day menu. Because we are unable to see the dashboard to determine which menu is currently displayed it is suggested that you press the A button once (A) and then the B button once (B). If your Xbox was displaying the root Dashboard menu, this will simply descend down to the Music menu and then ascend back to the root Dashboard menu. If your Xbox was displaying the Set Time and Day menu, this will accept the default time and day and return you to the root Dashboard menu. Alternatively, to set the correct time and day, you can unplug the Xbox and hook it to a TV, set the time and day, and then return the Xbox to your VGA monitor. The Xbox will retain the time and date for the short period of time during transition from your TV to VGA monitor. The Xbox should now be at the root Dashboard screen displaying the menu options from top to bottom Memory, Music, Settings. Music will be highlighted by default. Pressing down once on the 8-way directional pad (D) will select the Settings option. It is suggested that you press down again (D) to ensure that you do have the Settings option highlighted just incase you didn’t previously have the Music option highlighted but rather the Memory option. Press the A button once (A) to descend to the Settings menu. The Xbox should now be at the Settings menu displaying the options from the top Clock, Language, Audio, Video, etc… The top item Clock will be highlighted by default. Press down three times (D, D, D) to select the Video settings menu. Press the A button once (A) to descend to the Video settings menu. The Xbox should now be at the Video settings menu displaying a number of video modes from top to bottom 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i. The top item 480i will be highlighted by default. Press down once (D) to highlight 480p. Press the A button once (A) to select 480p. A dialogue box should now pop up displaying 480p and the two options from left to right Enabled, Disabled. The right option Disabled will be highlighted by default since 480p is presently disabled. Press left once (L) to highlight Enabled. Press the A button once (A) to enable 480p. The dialogue box will now disappear returning you to the Video settings menu. The Xbox should now be displaying the Video settings menu. The Xbox is now configured for 480p. You can press the B button twice (B, B) to ascend back to the Settings menu and then the root Dashboard menu, but you shouldn’t really need to. At this point put in your favorite game and enjoy VGA bliss.
