La Palma, Buena Park plan study on Metrolink feeder
Cities will jointly explore possibility of bus line to train station, which opens in April. Cypress may join effort later.
By SERENA MARIA DANIELS The Orange County Register La Palma and Buena Park plan to pool $200,000 from an Orange County Transportation Authority program to explore mass transit options. Under a $30 million OCTA project, the county's 34 cities can get $100,000 apiece to determine whether a mini mass transit system might be tied into Metrolink's commuter train line. Cities can use the money individually or combine the funds with neighboring communities. Buena Park officials have approached Cypress about the idea, so a third city – and another $100,000 – might join the study. The cities have not finalized an agreement with Cypress, OCTA spokesman Ted Nguyen said. "I think the synergy with three cities could really be beneficial," La Palma Councilwoman Christine Barnes said. Buena Park and La Palma intend to study the possibility of a feeder bus line connecting residents with the Buena Park Metrolink station that opens in April. Both cities must officially approve the study, but are expected to do so. So far, six Orange County cities are receiving OCTA money for studies. Proposals for studies in Buena Park, La Palma and another 11 cities will be considered soon by the agency. Contact the writer: 714-704-3795 or sdaniels@ocregister.com
