LOGGING ON
To log on you need to go to the following URL: http://myplace.gdst.net
There is no WWW!!!

When you first go to the site, you will be asked to click OK to downloading some
software. THIS IS SAFE! You will also be asked if it is OK to add the site to you
TRUSTED sites. Click OK to this.

Here is the welcome screen.

You need to enter your User Name and Password. These are the same as you use to log
on at school. DO NOT FORGET YOUR DETAILS. They can be reset by Mr.Nelkin or
the IT Support team but this can only be done in school.

THE WELCOME PAGE

Everything can be done from here. The items you will use the most will be e-mail and
accessing your files.

                                           1
E-MAIL

Click on the MY E-MAIL button.

The e-mail layout is identical at home or school! Teachers that use Outlook at school
need to familiarise themselves with this version of Web Outlook.

                                            2
SENDING E-MAILS

Sending emails via the Portal is the same as hotmail or other systems. However, we have
the advantage that you can easily find someone’s e-mail address if they are on the GDST
system.

Click NEW

A new window appears

In the To space I have started to type the surname of the teacher I want to send an e-mail
to. If I click the ICON in the red circle, the system will check all the names in the school
(and other GDST schools) and, if unique, the person you are emailing will appear!
(Surname first then first name). If the surname is more common then the system will
give you a list to choose from. All the e-mails at Notting Hill & Ealing will have a
NHEHS in them!!! E.g. a.teacher@nhehs.gdst.net.

DO NOT SEND E-MAILS TO OTHER STUDENTS AT OTHER SCHOOLS IN THE
TRUST UNLESS YOU KNOW THEM AND THEY ARE EXPECTING YOUR
E-MAIL.

                                             3
ATTACHING FILES

Click Attachments to start the attachment process.

The following window appears.

You need to Browse for the file you want to attach and then click Attach. After a short
while, depending on the file size, the file will appear in the Current File attachments box.
You can then add another file if you like. Once you have finished this you click Close
and return to the email.

NEVER SEND AN ATTACHMENT LARGER THAN 2MB !!

                                             4
ACCESSING YOUR FILES – DOWNLOADING AND UPLOADING

Introduction to downloading and uploading files

The portal allows you to download files from any of the shared drives you are allowed to
access including your own personal drive.

The main drives are:
N:\ Your drive.

T:\ Shared drive that staff and students use. Everyone can save and download
             from this drive.

H:\ Senior ICT drive that we use in ICT

V:\ Students drive. This drive contains files that teachers can save for students.
Students can download these but cannot save to this drive.

Accessing the Files on the school system
Click the MY FILES button which is shown below.

Another blue button appears in the centre left of the page.

                                             5
Click on this button and you are taken to the page which contains your Files and the
Network drives that you can also access.

Downloading and Uploading

When you locate a file you want to open, you double-click on file and select SAVE or
OPEN.

When you have completed editing your document you need to save it on your home
computer! PLEASE NOTE. THE FILE IS STILL ON YOUR HOME COMPUTER –
NOT ON THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

You now need to upload it to the school system.

Decide where you need to upload it to! The file is always uploaded to the folder that you
are viewing at that time. Make sure you know where you are! E.g. your home folder or a
shared drive.

Click the Upload button here

                                            6
The following window appears. Note that the blue writing shows where the file is going
to be uploaded to.

Click Browse and locate the file you need
to upload.

Once you have found the file, select Open,
then (see below), Upload Now.

When successful – after a time (depending on the size of the file) your file will appear as
shown below.
