Families First is the result of four pilot programs since 1994 that have been designed to improve the quality of the move experience for service members and their families. The objectives for DPS are given below with the elements of Families First that are being incorporated into DPS to support the overall Families First mission. Development As part of Phase II of the Families First program, end-to-end development of DPS is taking place in three tasks. SRA, the systems integrator, has been awarded Tasks 1, 2 and 3. An overview of the elements and timing of each task is given below. Task 1 (June ly 2004- September 2004) -- Gap Analysis and Proposed Technical Solution Task 2 (September 2004 – October 2005) -- Develop, Test, Train and Implement DPS Task 3 (November 2005 – October 2014 planned) -- Operate and Maintain DPS
The functionality of DPS is being developed in two main increments. Increment 1 delivers the functions that are critical to the process of moving personal property. Increment 2 follows with functions that are important for managing, reporting and analyzing data collected through the move process. Note that while functions will be “delivered” as part of each increment, they must first go through the testing phase prior to system rollout. System functionality is given below by increment.
