This annual event has an impressive history of increasing the awareness of the host destination. In 1992 the Dertour Travel
Academy was last held in Toronto and generated a 33% increase in German visitors to Canada in 1993. In 2005, total German
visitation to Ontario was 143,000 with the average leisure spend of $560 generating a total of over $80.0M. If hosting the event
in Ontario in 2008 conservatively generates a 20% increase in visitation in 2009, it is estimated that a potential incremental spend
of $16.0 M to the provincial economy could be generated.
