Children below 5 complimentary How to get there: Air: Flight to Kullu and drive for 2.5 hrs. Rail: Shatabdi train to Chandigarh and drive for 8 hrs to Sojha. Road: 480 kms from Delhi/ 12 hrs drive. Places to visit/ hikes around retreat: Serolser Lake: 5 km from the Jalori Pass (3223m). The walk is through thick Oak forest. Raghupur Fort: A 6 km walk from the Retreat. The remains of the fort are on top of a plateau and offer panoramic view of the valleys below. Waterfall Point: This is about an hours’ walk from the Retreat. It should ideally be done early in the morning. Tirthan Valley: About 30 kms from Shoja. The Tirthan River, which flows through the valley, is great for trout fishing.
THANEDAR, 7700 FT., SHIMLA DISTRICT
80 kms from Shimla on the old Hindustan-Tibet road lay Kotgarh/ Thanedar, which enjoys a special place in Himachal history. In 1916 Samuel Stokes; a social worker from Philadelphia brought the first apple saplings to Kotgarh, the place he adopted as his home. Nestled amongst acres of apple blossoms is the Banjara Orchard Retreat - an eco-friendly getaway that will enchant nature lovers. There are fully furnished rooms with attached baths and a well-equipped kitchen to cater to a variety of tastes. Places to visit/ hikes around the Retreat Tani-Jubbar Lake: Hatu Peak: Famous for 'Nag Devta' temple built along the lake. The lake is 6 Kms from the retreat. 15 kms drive and 6 Kms hike, at 11,000 ft, this peak offers a panoramic view of the snowline. Built in 1843, this church at Kotgarh is one of the oldest churches in India. 9 kms by road or 3 kms hike. Saroga Forest walk: Enjoy a lovely walk in the forest early in the morning.
