HBA MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON--NEW HOME'S CARBON FOOTPRINTS & CA GREEN BUILDER
The HBA June 12th membership lunch meeting will be a two part program discussing the impacts of new homes on the environment and energy savings. The first presentation will be Building Smart--How New Homes Stack Up in the Battle to Stop Global Warming. Michael Hodgson, President of ConSol, will present a power point look at the state's green house gas inventory from six sources and carbon footprints of new vs. existing housing. This presentation is the result of ConSol's research into the improved energy-efficiency of newly constructed homes in California. The second presentation, the California Green Builder Program, is by Justin Dunning, Partner Manager of CGB. This program was designed by home builders for home builders and their home buyers and focuses on five key areas: energy conservation, indoor air quality, waste management, water conservation and wood conservation. The program is committed to helping jurisdictions and municipalities address their growing resource constraints, as well as helping builders satisfy growing consumer demand for "green" homes. Registration begins at 11:15 a.m., lunch served at 11:45 and the program will begin promptly at noon. Due to the subject matter, length of presentations and in order to ensure enough time for Michael and Justin to fully respond to the many questions they expect their presentations will raise, we have reserved the Lamp Liter Inn until 2:00 p.m. Location: Lamp Liter Inn, 3000 W. Mineral King, Visalia -- Reservation Deadline: Tuesday, June 10th. To make reservations call Glenda at the HBA 625-5447 -- fax 625-2690 or email build@biatk.com Because of the importance of the information in this program, the HBA has invited the Boards of Supervisors, all City Councils, Planning Commissions and Building Officials in Kings and Tulare Counties. Please arrive early to help expedite check-in.

HBA BUILDERS BLITZ BUILD BEGINS SATURDAY, MAY 31ST
The HBA is building a house in 1 week for the Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz 2008. The project begins Saturday, May 31st and will be completed by June 7th. The house located at 1631 N. Summers Street is being built with donated materials and labor from 40 companies. Cliff Ronk and his team from Centex have done a great job of coordinating all the donations, manpower needs, materials deliveries, etc. and working with Betsy Murphy and her staff at Habitat. We have engaged the Lockwood Agency for the promotion of the event and HBA has been running radio ads recognizing each company that has partnered with the HBA on this great project. You can hear them on KTIP, KJUG and KCRZ. Additionally, KTIP's "PK The Redhead" will be doing a live remote broadcast from the site beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the 31st. Our "Thanks" to all who have worked and will work so hard to make this project a success.

HBA ATTORNEY SOLICITATION SEMINAR - JULY 15TH
HBATK is coordinating with Michael Strech, CBIA Vice President Member Services and the BIA Fresno/Madera and HBA Kern to hold this important Seminar. It will help builders deal with the lawyers who "paper" subdivisions that were built prior to January 2003 when SB 800 became effective. Builders have 5 years of exposure remaining for these defect attorneys to solicit homeowners to join in class action construction defect lawsuits. The seminar will be presented by two legal experts, Kathleen Carpenter and George Dale, both well-known for their aggressive pursuit of these defect solicitations. The seminar will be held July 15th at the Visalia Elks Lodge from 9-11 AM. More info and registration material will be sent soon.
