Waubonsie Valley Wins Grammy Award – The GRAMMY Foundation announced Waubonsie Valley High School is recognized for having one of the top three music programs in the country. As a GRAMMY Signature School Gold recipient, Waubonsie Valley will receive a GRAMMY award and a check for $5,000 during a presentation concert at the school on May 10 at 7:30 pm. [Senior Class 2007] Forgot to order announcements or cap & gown? Forgot to order your graduation cap & gown? Bring $60 cash to order your cap & gown during all lunches in the cafeteria on May 17th. Extra announcements are available for purchase from Mrs. Schaible at the receptionist area in the Administration Office. Warrior SO Track Team wins 22 regional medals – Cayla Sherman & Kathryn Smith qualify for State - The Waubonsie Special Olympics Track Team was a medal collecting machine Sunday at the ILSO Region 2 District Meet at North Central College. The Warriors wo n a total of 22 medals, including golds by Cayla Sherman and Kathryn Smith who won their 100 meter dash events to qualify for the State Games to be held at Illinois State University in June. Smith, who had also previously qualified for swimming, took a bronze medal in the softball throw. Waubonsie also had 12 silver medal athletes, just missing State Games berths. Many Warriors were multiple medal winners including Alex Hodges, Roberto Espinosa, Taylor Cottingham, Becky Kastner, Shekira Beach, and Ben James. Myesha Hill also stood out for the Warriors, as she ran a school-best 17.2 in the women's division of the 100 meter run after taking a third place medal for the shot put. Business Education Announces Outstanding Students The following students from Waubonsie Valley High School have been named the Business Education students of the Month for March. Students are selected based on a variety of factors that may include academic achievement, improvement in the course, assistance or tutoring of other students. Many opportunities exist for building career and professional skills, participating in leadership development activities, networking, meeting professionals in various fields of business, and participating in one of our two student business clubs - BPA and DECA. SkillsUSA State Competition – Many students advanced to the SkillsUSA State Championships in Springfield to be held April 19, 20, and 21st. They have shown knowledge in their area of interest as well as in the SkillsUSA program. The participants competed in hands on competitions and contests. Each contest took 4-8 hours and judges from industry decided who was to be a state champion. We qualified 33 Warrior students who participated in 13 different areas for this competition and I congratulate all the students who took part. The Warrior team produced 3-State Champions, 12 medal winners and 21 Top 6 place finishers. This event is held in conjunction with the closing night performance of the Spring Musical, "Thoroughly Modern Millie", on Saturday, May 5th at 5:0 0 PM. Dinner Theater attendees will be treated to a fantastic meal, entertainment from cast members, preferred seating for the show, and a ch ance at many wonderful auction packages, including White Sox, Cubs, and Chicago Fire tickets, golf packages, tickets to the musical "The Color Purple", home remodeling, and MUCH, MUCH MORE. Don't miss out on this exciting evening and help support a great cause!

Last Day of School Announced - Due to the two snow days used this winter, the last day of school is now Monday, June 11. This change will not affect the May 27 graduation ceremonies planned for Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley.

Class of 2008, 2009 & 2010 Online Elections - Student Council Class Officers – Nominations for the 2007-08 Class Officers for Student Council will take place online this year, similarly to Homecoming and Prom Court nominations. Students can find a link to the website that will allow them to vote for ONLY their class officers on the student splash page in the LMC. Students will use their 12 digit ID # /passwords to log in and will be allowed to vote only once. Students can also access the website from home. T hey will have one week from April 27th, 9:30am through May 2nd, 10:00pm. • Students are to visit the board in the student cafeteria to read the statements and photographs provided by each candidate from each class. • They may then log on the voting site and choose the candidate they believe will best fill each of the positions (Pres., V. Pres., Secretary and Treasure) from THEIR class only. • They may only vote once, so once they hit the submit button they will no longer have access to the voting site.

[Senior Class 2007 & Junior 2008] Prom Court Nominations - Nominations for the 2007 Prom Court will take place ONLINE this year. Students can vote from a home computer or in the LMC (lunch, before school or after school). Court Nominations (Juniors and S eniors) can be made ONLINE beginning on Friday, April 27th at 9:30 am until Wednesday, May 2nd at 10:00 pm. Students can nominate up to five males and five female students from the Senior Class (Class of 2007) to the Prom Court. Repeat votes will be filtered and the ENTIRE ballot will NOT be counted. King & Queen Vote (Seniors Only) can be made ONLINE beginning on Friday, May 4th at 9:30 am until Wednesday, May 9th at 10:00 pm. Students will vote from a list of senior court winners for their 2007 Prom King an d 2007 Prom Queen. Visit the WVHS web site at http://wvhs.ipsd.org (button on the left) or the Student Splash Page (upper right) for ONLINE voting. Students will use their ID Number, 12 digits, for the Username. Remind students to be sure to include the zeros in front of the ID Number so that it equals 12 digits. (Example: 56789 would be entered as 000000056789) Password for all students is their computer password. Students will be allowed to vot e ONCE per election. Coronation is on Friday, May 11th at Prom. Tryouts for the 2007-2008 WVHS Poms - 5/1 Meeting Rm 174 Gold - 5/7-5/9 Tryouts – Mandatory Informational Meeting: Tuesday, 5/1Gold Campus - Room 174 - 3:45 pm Tryouts: Monday, 5/7 and Tuesday, 5/8 - Gold Campus Gym - 2:45 pm - 5:30 pm. Tryouts (Judging): Wednesday, 5/9 - Green Campus Dance Room - 4:00 pm. *Physicals must be current and presented on the first day of tryouts. *Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you can dance in. DECA Meeting Cancelled – There will be no DECA meeting on Wednesday, May 2nd, due to the national DECA conference. See you on May 9th!!! We will be planning events for the future and playing some games. Don't forget to bring refreshments! WVHS 2007 Musical - WVHS presents the 2007 all-school musical, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. Set in the roaring twenties when bobbing your hair and rolling your stockings was considered daring, Millie has arrived in New York. Millie has guts, pluck, c harisma, moxie: a girl with big dreams from a little town. Performances are May 3, 4, and 5, at 7:30 PM in the auditorium. Tickets go on sale Monday, May 23rd, at the theatre box office from 2-4 daily. Prices are $6 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults. WVHS Cheer Tryouts – The Waubonsie Valley Cheerleading program will be holding tryouts for Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Hometeam sideline cheerleaders. The tryout is open to 8th graders (incoming freshmen for 2007) and all WV high school students. There will be a Mandatory Info Meeting on May 7th at the Main Campus in room 108 from 3:30 pm-4:00 pm to outline the program and tryouts.
