					KINGS LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT 1797 King Avenue Kings Mills, Ohio 45034 REGULAR BOARD MEETING KEC - Conference Room 3 October 21, 2008 5:30 p.m. The Kings Local Board of Education held a Work Session on October 21, 2008 at 5:30 p.m., Kings Education Center, Conference Room 3, for the purpose of discussing issues relevant to the school construction program. Present: 08-121 Mr. Hale Husband, Mrs. Rebecca Holloway, Mr. Toby Darkins, Mr. Todd Overturf, Mrs. Bonnie Baker-Hicks. Mr. Darkins made a motion, seconded by Mr. Overturf to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The motion passed by the following roll call vote: Yes- Mr. Husband, Mrs. Holloway, Mr. Darkins, Mr. Overturf, Mrs. BakerHicks Note: The following minutes represent a summary of the official actions of the Board of Education at this meeting. An audio recording of the meeting was made and is available for review at the office of the Treasurer. The Kings Local Board of Education held their October meeting on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 6:30 p.m. at the Kings Education Center, Conference Room 3. Approve additions to agenda Mrs. Holloway made a motion, seconded by Mr. Husband to approve additions to the agenda. Mrs. Baker-Hicks made a motion, seconded by Mr. Darkins to approve the following Treasurer’s Reports: Minutes Approve the minutes of the regular meeting of September 16, 2008. Financial Reports Approve the investment and financial reports for the month of September 2008. The motion passed by the following roll call vote: Yes- Mr. Husband, Mrs. Holloway, Mr. Darkins, Mr. Overturf, Mrs. BakerHicks Reports Dr. Browning presented the Excellence with Distinction Banner. A State Report Card Overview was provided to the Board. 08-124 Superintendent Recommendations Mrs. Holloway made a motion, seconded by Mr. Husband to approve the following Superintendent’s Recommendations: Resignations Approve the following resignations: • • Rachel West, childcare aide, effective 10-13-08 Shawn Blankenship, marching band consultant (supplemental), effective 10-7-08

Termination – Laura Werner Approve termination of contract for Laura Werner as childcare aide due to failure to report to work, effective 9-19-08. One Year Limited Contract – Tami Coleman Approve a one year limited contract for Tami Coleman as special needs assistant, effective 9-29-08. Tammy will be on step “2” of the salary schedule. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of paperwork. One Year Limited Contract – Nikisha Evans Approve a one year limited contract for Nikisha Evans as childcare aide, effective 10-27-08. Nikisha will be on step “0” of the salary schedule and will work fulltime (40 hours per week – 12 months per year). Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of paperwork.

One Year Limited Contract – Maureen Moon Approve a one year limited contract for Maureen Moon as cook/cashier, effective 10-13-08. Maureen will be on step “0” of the salary schedule and will work 3 hours per day (11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.). One Year Limited Contract – Stephanie Williams Approve a one year limited contract for Stephanie Williams as childcare aide, effective 10-13-08. Stephanie will be on step “0” of the salary schedule and will work fulltime (40 hours per week – 12 months per year). Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of paperwork. Maternity/FMLA – Carrie Cooke Approve maternity leave and FMLA for Carrie Cooke, teacher at Kings High School effective approximately 12-30-08 with an approximate return date of 3-30-09. Increase in Hours – Carolyn Gabbard Approve an increase in hours for Carolyn Gabbard. Carolyn will go from 3 hours per day to 3.5 hours per day as cook/cashier, effective 10-6-08. Carolyn will stay on her current step of the salary schedule. Increase in Hours – Cindy Hunt Approve an increase in hours for Cindy Hunt. Cindy will go from 2 hours per day to 3.75 hours per day as cook/cashier, effective 10-13-08. Cindy will stay on her current step of the salary schedule. Change in Work Schedule – Tricia Kane Approve change in work schedule for Tricia Kane from 12 months to 9 months as a teacher’s assistant, effective 8-18-08. Tricia will remain on the same step of the pay scale. Substitute Teachers Approve the following as substitute teachers for the 2008-2009 school year. Substitute Nurses Approve the following as substitute nurses for the 2008-2009 school year. Jenni Blodgett Jill Reagan Chris Zimmer Kim Carlin Community Service Coordinator – Terry Kahn Approve Terry Kahn as Community Service Coordinator with a stipend of $6000.00 effective for the 2008-2009 school year. Stipend – Friday Night School Approve stipend in the amount of $50.00 per session each to the following individuals for supervision of Friday Night School at Kings High School. The hours for Friday Night School will be 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. Diane Smitson Kathy Daggy Stipend – KJH YES Program Approve stipend in the amount of $3000.00 each for the following teachers as sponsors of the Kings Junior High YES program for the 2008-2009 school year. Jennifer Bicknell Sheryl Hoover Stipend - OhioRead Coordinator – J.F. Burns Elementary Approve Emily Robertson as the OhioRead coordinator for J.F. Burns Elementary for the 2008-2009 school year. Emily will be paid a $2000.00 stipend through the J.F. Burns building budget.

Yes- Mr. Husband, Mrs. Holloway, Mr. Darkins, Mr. Overturf, Mrs. BakerHicks 08-125 Superintendent Recommendations Mr. Overturf made a motion, seconded by Mr. Husband to approve the following superintendent recommendations: Extended Field Trip – KHS Journalism Approve the extended field trip to St. Louis, MO for Kings High Journalism class. Students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of journalism, participate in workshops and individual competitions. Dates of the trip will be November 13-16, 2008. Extended Field Trip – Interior Design & Advanced Art Club Approve the extended field trip to New York City, NY for Kings High School Interior Design and Advanced Art Club members. Students will have exposure to careers in art and design and reinforcement of concepts taught in classes (architecture, artists, careers, design elements and principles). Dates of the trip will be March 5-8, 2009. Extended Field Trip – KHS Orchestra Approve the extended field trip to New York City, NY for Kings High School Orchestra. Students will perform at the Madison Avenue Sculpture Garden Atrium. They will be exposed to the rich history and art of such a diverse city. Dates of the trip will be April 30 – May 3, 2009. New Custodial Position Approve a new custodial position, up to 8 hours per day/12 months per year for the new additions at Kings High School and Kings Junior High School. Increased Late Fee Pricing – Kings Kids Approve the increased late fee pricing schedule for Kings Kids, effective 11-3-08. Authorization to Dispose of Used Equipment Approve the authorization to dispose of used equipment. The Superintendent has determined the property value is less than $10,000. The property is no longer needed for school purposes and the Kings Local School District Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent to dispose of miscellaneous and used equipment per BOE policy.
