New: our newsletter will be updated in February, May, August & November! In an effort to conserve resources and eliminate waste, the Recreation Department no longer distributes it‘s quarterly newsletter through the schools. As always, you can access our newsletter online, at Town Hall, the Wilmington Memorial Library and the Buzzell Senior Center. How to Register: Weekdays: Monday—Friday, 8:30 a.m. — 4:30 p.m., Recreation Office, Town Hall, Room 8. Phone: (978) 658 – 4270. Mail: Recreation Department, Town Hall, 121 Glen Road, Wilmington, MA 01887 Night Drop: In sealed envelope, place payment, with your contact information including phone number, and program or trip information in the Payment Drop Off slot in the wall at the left of the front door to Town Hall. The box is opened once a day at 8:30 a.m. The date payment is received is the date it is removed from the box. We encourage residents of varying abilities, disabilities to participate in our programs, trips, etc. If you require an accommodation, call the Recreation Office at (978) 658—4270 or call TTY (978) 694—1417. This is the current flyer in circulation. As you read on, you may find that some programs are already in progress or complete. We keep this list intact so you can see the diverse programs that this Department is able to offer. Many programs are regular offerings and are available at different times throughout the year. Others are annual events that are eagerly anticipated by the community. We hope that you find something of interest. We welcome your participation.

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
KINDER BASKETBALL (West Intermediate School Cafeteria) Ages 4 – Kindergarten, $30, Saturdays, January 23 – February 13, (4 Weeks). Choose from: 8:30 – 9:20 a.m. or 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. or 10:30 – 11:20 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. Just like the big kids, it‘s basketball season for you, too! Learn to play the game and have some fun! *JUNIOR BASKETBALL (Shawsheen School Gym) Grades 1 & 2, Late registration fee $40, Late registrations will be accepted based on availability. Saturdays, January 2 – February 6, (6 Weeks), Team Pictures: Saturday, January 16. This instructional league introduces the basics. Teams play a staggered schedule of hourly sessions that include drills and scrimmages. Registration forms are also available on our website. KINDER KARATE (Brett Gonsalves – North Intermediate School Cafeteria) Ages 4 – Grade 1, $30, Saturdays, January 9 – February 6, (5 Weeks), 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. An introduction to the art. Warm-ups, basic moves and body strikes will be featured. Continuing students are welcome! *”THE ROOKIES” (Formerly T-Ball) Currently in Kindergarten & Grade 1, $25, Monday - Friday, May 3 – June 11, No practice 5/31, (6 Weeks). This co-ed program begins with two weeks of T-Ball (Spring Training!) and moves forward into the season with coaches pitching. Teams will practice once a week to allow players to improve their baseball/softball skills and have one game each week for fun! Registration begins Tuesday, February 2. Registration deadline is Thursday, March 25. Forms are available on our website. KINDER SOCCER (North Intermediate School Gymnasium) Ages 4 & 5 not yet in Kindergarten, $35, Saturdays, February 27 – March 27, (5 Weeks). Choose from: 8:30 – 9:20 a.m. or 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. or 10:30 – 11:20 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Just like the big kids, now you can play soccer indoors while learning about the game. Don‘t wait – classes fill quickly!

KIDS IN MOTION (Jennifer Tortolano) Ages 2 – 4, $45, Saturdays, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Choose from: January 9 – February 13 (No class 1/16), Woburn St. School Cafeteria or February 27 – March 27, (5 Weeks), North Int. School Cafeteria. Children will love their first ―gym class‖! These sessions incorporate rhythm and movement using a variety of props and music. BALLET & JAZZ DANCE LESSONS (Kelly Torpey – North Intermediate School Cafeteria) Ages 3 - 4, $30, Saturdays, April 10 – May 15 (no class 4/24), (5 Weeks), 9:30 – 10:20 a.m. Our youngest dancers will learn age appropriate beginning ballet and jazz moves. Children can wear their sneakers. THEME PARTIES (Christine Downey) Ages 4 – 7, $18 each party. Includes games, stories, music, a craft, refreshments and a souvenir photo. Pot O’ Gold – Town Hall, Wednesday, March 17, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Dress in green and join the fun at this ―treasure‖ of a party! Back in the Day – Harnden Tavern, Friday, May 21, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Experience the days of the past with ―historical‖ games and treats! You‘ll enjoy your party in the town‘s own museum – a great way to have fun while you learn about days gone by. JAZZ AND HIP HOP DANCE LESSONS (Kelly Torpey – North Intermediate School Cafeteria) Ages 5 – 7, $30, Saturdays, April 10 – May 15 (no class 4/24), (5 Weeks), 10:30 – 11:20 p.m. This class will teach the basics of jazz and hip hop. Children can wear their sneakers. “FUN IN FEBRUARY” FIELD TRIP (Bernie McNally) Grades 2 – 7, $25, Thursday, February 18, 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Travel with some of the ever-popular Playground Program staff for fun and excitement over February vacation to the Kidsville arcade in Lynnfield! The day will include lunch of pizza and soda, 40 tokens, bus transportation and a lot of fun! ZUMBA FOR KIDS (Jennifer Tortolano – Woburn St. School Cafeteria) Grades 3 – 5, $45, Saturdays, January 9 – February 13, (5 Weeks), 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. No class 1/16. ―The Moms‖ are having a great time with this new fitness craze – now the kids can give it a try! Dance to some Latin music, learn some new choreography and get some exercise that‘s purely fun! “BEAT THE WINTER BLUES” BINGO (Pat Romano & Terri Marciello - Buzzell Senior Center) Grades 2 – 5, $6, Friday, February 5, 6 – 8 p.m. A ―night out‖ to play bingo for non-cash prizes. Refreshments will be served. SATURDAY RECESS! (Jennifer Tortolano – North Int. School Cafeteria) Grades 1 – 3, $45, Saturdays, February 27 – March 27, (5 Weeks), 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Start with classic games like ―duck, duck, goose‖, four square and dodgeball, and before you know it, you‘ll have enjoyed a full body workout! VOLLEYBALL CLINIC (Chris Copeland – Woburn St. School Gym) Grades 6 – 8, $35, Thursdays, March 4 – April 8, (6 Weeks), 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. This program for beginner or experienced players consists of 45 minutes of instruction followed by 45 minutes of team play. *LEARN TO SKATE (Wilmington Figure Skating Club – Ristuccia Memorial Arena) Ages 3 and up, $88, Fridays, January 8 – February 12 or March 5 – April 9, (6 Weeks), 4 – 4:50 p.m. or 5:20 – 6:10 p.m. 25 minutes of instruction and 25 minutes of practice time will teach your child a lifetime sport. A helmet and single blade skates are required. Registration forms are available on our website. The price includes an annual $10 USFS registration fee. *LEARN TO SKATE – HOCKEY (Wilmington Figure Skating Club – Ristuccia Memorial Arena) Ages 5 and up, $88, Fridays, January 8 – February 12, (6 Weeks), 4 – 4:50 p.m. Price includes an annual $10 USFS fee. Snow Plow 1 – 3 or basic skating ability is a prerequisite for this program. Learn skating techniques for playing hockey (no sticks or pucks yet!). Participants will be grouped by level of ability. Hockey skates and helmet required BABYSITTER TRAINING (Gunther Wellenstein – Library Conference Room) Entering Grades 5 and up, $60, Saturdays, March 13 & 20, (2 Weeks), 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Part one covers the basics including holding, diapering, bedtime and games. Part two will address home safety and basic first aid. Certificate upon completion. Participants should bring a doll and a snack. Prepare to start your babysitting career.

Skyhawks Mini Hawks – Ages 4 – 6 $101 June 21 - 25, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Graduate to T-ball, basketball and soccer! Skyhawks Cheerleading – Ages 6 – 8 $101 July 19 – 23, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Jump, shout, show ‗em what you‘re all about!

Thundercat Kiddie Cat Jam Monday – Friday, August 2 – 6 Ages 3 – 4, $70 9 – 10:30 a.m. or 10:45 – 12:15 p.m. Ages 5 – 6, $115 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The mini version of Sports Jam! Play soccer, t-ball, kick ball, basketball, softee hockey, and balloon ball. Play ―finding the Nemo‖, Sponge Bob tag, thunder relays, Kiddie Cat Olympics and more. Theme days include Red Sox Day and Friday Fun!

Thundercat Sports Jam (Ages 7 – 9) Monday – Friday, August 9 – 13 $145 Full Day 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. $115 Half Day 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. The ultimate multi-sport program with core sports of baseball, basketball and soccer. Other sports like flag football, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, disc golf, team handball and kick ball are included – as well as games like ―shark attack‖ and ―safari‖.

GOLF CLINICS (Barrie Bruce – Billerica Country Club) Ages 7 – 14, $85, Monday – Friday, April 19 – 23 (school vacation week), 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Golf clubs are provided if necessary. ―All you need is a pair of sneakers and a good attitude!‖ Choice of: Jr. Golf (co-ed) or Golf for Girls Classes are for both beginners and continuing students. STOTT PILATES $104, (No classes 2/15 – 2/17) Mondays, January 4 – March 1, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, January 5 – March 2, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, January 6 – March 3, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. (Kate Ryan – Essential Pilates Studio, 10 Marie Dr., Wilmington) Pilates is a mind-body exercise designed to increase flexibility and core strength while working on the muscles supporting the spine. Mats and equipment will be supplied by the instructor.

LITTLE DRAGONS KARATE CLASS (Academy of Traditional Karate, 155 West St.) Ages 3 & 4, $25, Thursdays, March 4 - 25, (4 Weeks), 4:10 – 4:40 p.m. This class includes basic Karate moves, Japanese culture and life skills such as concentration, respect and confidence. T-shirt and belt included. TOPSports – This program for special needs children ages 3 – 18 allows participation in group games and basketball. Children are paired with a volunteer middle or high school student. The program is on Saturdays, December 12 – February 13, (no class 12/26), 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the North Intermediate School Cafeteria. CAKE DECORATING FOR BEGINNERS (Regina Leblanc – Town Hall Auditorium) $50, Wednesdays, March 3 – 31, (5 Weeks), 7 – 9 p.m. Learn skills to become your family‘s own Ace of Cakes! All materials will be provided – just be prepared to ―spread the fun‖ and ―put the icing on the cake‖! Limited enrollment. ADULT OPEN GYM (Ryan Tildsley – Woburn St. School Gym) Ages 18 and up, $5 per night, Wednesdays, December 2 – January 27, no 12/30, (8 Weeks), 8 – 9:30 p.m. Drop in for informal games of pick-up basketball! Enjoy a work out in the middle of the week. *35+ BASKETBALL (Bill Campbell – Middle School Gym) $50 + $20 shirt fee, Wednesdays, April 7 – June 2, no games 4/21, (8 Weeks), 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. games. Registration is first-come, first-served. This league offers those ages 35 and over structured team play with refereed games for fun and fitness. Players without a 35+ mesh shirt must pay shirt fee. AEROBICS (Patti Fitzgerald – Woburn St. School Gym) $60, Mondays & Wednesdays, January 11 – March 15 (no class 1/18, 2/15 and 2/17), (8 Weeks), 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Shape up with new exercises and innovative methods in this low impact course consisting of aerobics, strengthening and conditioning. WATER AEROBICS (Patti Fitzgerald – Shawsheen Technical School Pool) $72, Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 23 – April 1, (6 Weeks), 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Join in this fun fitness class that gives you a workout using the natural resistance of water. Floats and weights will be available for your use. ZUMBA (Jennifer Tortolano – Woburn St. School Gym) $55, Tuesdays, January 5 – February 9 or February 23 – March 30, (6 Weeks), 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Join in the new exercise craze with this class that fuses Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a dynamic workout. The routines feature interval training sessions of fast and slow rhythms and resistance training to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat and calories. ZUMBA LITE from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. This class will use the same moves, just at a little slower pace! NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL CLASSES (Gunther Wellenstein, S.A.F.E. – Town Hall) Adult/Child/Infant CPR - $45, Wednesday, May 12, 6 – 10 p.m. An introduction to EMS, choking and cardiac emergencies. Adult/Child/Infant First Aid - $45, Wednesday, May 19, 6 – 10 p.m. Train for sudden illness, injury, disease transmission, etc. Take both CPR and First Aid classes, and save $5 per class. Certificate will be received upon completion of class.

Non-resident participation is at the discretion of the Recreation Department. Non-residents may be placed on a waiting list and may pay a surcharge. ·Avoid disappointment - sign up early! Many programs have minimum registration requirements and risk cancellation if under enrolled. ·If a program is full, ask to be placed on the waiting list. ·Many programs depend on volunteers!
