Primary Lead SENCO Support Lead SENCos are experienced and effective practitioners who are provided with time out of their own school to support other SENCOs. Lead SENCOs are available to support SENCOs in the following areas: Answering general SEN related questions (usually by phone) Supporting either by phone or in person, SENCOs completing, for example, a referral form or an Appendix B for the first time Practical curriculum development e.g. helping with differentiation, modelling teaching or undertaking paired teaching (referral required*) Supporting new SENCOs in operational and management tasks. *If you would like to take up this particular area of support from a Lead SENCO, please complete a ‘ Request for involvement’ form, outlining the nature of support required. The request must come from your Head Teacher. The referral form can be found on the SEN team web site. On completion, please return to Helen Webb (SEN Advisory Teacher) at the address stated on the form. Lead SENCOs work mainly with the school’s SENCo and, in some cases, individual staff members, but they would not carry out group staff training, pupil assessments or direct pupil teaching. Their work is not a replication of that carried out by the Specialist Teaching Service or our team. Their particular strength lies in their hands-on experience of learning and teaching. There are currently 4 Lead SENCOs working across the county.
