                                  2009 BALLOT ISSUES


Issue # 1-Term Limits

Shall the L1055 President and Vice Presidents term be changed from one year to two
years and be voted on in alternating years as described below?

President and Shift Two Vice President on even years. (2008, 2010, 2012, etc.)
First and Third Shift Vice Presidents on odd numbered years. (2009, 2011, 2013, etc.)

      If approved this initiative shall become an addition to the by-laws

Issue # 2- Electronic Voting

Shall electronic voting be added to Local 1055’s by-laws as an optional method for
voting?

      If approved this initiative shall become an addition to the by-laws

Issue #3-2009 Budget

Shall the 2009 Budget be adopted as read?

Article 3 – Membership, Section 6

Retiree Membership

Any retiring member of Local 1055 in good standing may choose to continue his/her
Membership under the following guidelines:
          Retired members are eligible to vote on all union business
          Votes cast by retired members will be counted as a ½ vote
          Retired members retain the same rights and privileges as any other due-paying
           member
          See section 9 of Local 1055 By-Laws pertaining to payment of dues

Article 4 – Meetings, Section 1

General Membership Meeting Date and Times

Regular meetings of this Local shall be held on the second Tuesday of each month at
6:30pm unless notified otherwise.

Executive Board Meeting Date

The Executive Board meetings of this Local shall be held in accordance with the dates
and times set forth by the Executive Board during the first meeting of the calendar year.

Article 9 – Initiation, Dues and Assesments, Section 1

All dues shall be paid by authorized payroll deduction and withdrawn from the last
paycheck of each month.

Exemption: retired member’s dues shall be $7.00 a month

Exemption: Retired members shall elect to pay dues on a monthly /annual basis to Local
1055 Treasurer.

Article 13 – Awards/Recognition, Section 1

IAFF Local 1055 will pay for and award watches to union members who have the
required number of years of service to qualify for normal retirement. Said members also
have the option of receiving an IAFF designed brass axe, if willing to pay ½ of the cost.
Plaques will be given only to union members who leave the Columbia Fire Department
with a medical disability/retirement, normal retirement or with 15 or more years of
service.

Awarding of plaques and/or watches which do not fall under the guideline must be voted
on at the general membership meeting for each individual.

Local 1055 shall award/recognize members for going above and beyond the call of duty
for life saving events. These awards shall be presented at the annual Christmas banquet.
