IDITAROD TRAIL COMMITTEE PREPARES FOR DOG HANDLER TRAINING
Wasilla Alaska- The Iditarod Trail Committee (ITC) will be conducting a Dog Handler training class for volunteers who are at least 18 years of age at 10 am, on February 19th at the Eagle River VFW in Eagle River, Alaska. Another class will be held at 1 pm on March 4th; at the Anchorage Millennium Hotel. Iditarod volunteers who want to donate their time to the race by handling the dogs during IDITAROD XXXIII must be certified. Interested volunteers will be trained in how to hold a gang line as well as individual canine athletes. Both activities require stamina, a strong back, and endurance- this is a physically strenuous job! The class will also teach you what to wear and what not to wear when working with these athletes. Volunteers for the certified classes are asked to wear warm clothes, gloves, and shoes (no cleats please). For more information on the certified dog handler training classes, contact Deby Trosper, at 907.376.5155 (ext.112).
