Dear Friends, The ‘Big Day’ has arrived at long last! As soon as this Sunday’s 11:15 a.m. mass is finished, we will start our Family Fun Day. It is both by way of raising some funds for the parish and more importantly it is a community builder, a get-toknow your fellow parishioners, especially those who are new to the parish, like me for example. All the Family Fun Day details, which you already know, but just in case that old mind is not what it used to be, are further on in the bulletin. Of course, it dare not rain! I am looking forward to meeting you all and having lots of fun with you. As I have announced for the last couple of weeks, there will be a show of hands to determine if there is a majority interest (It seems there is, but who knows?) among the Saturday evening 6 o’clock mass congregation to change the mass time to an earlier one or not. We have to do that this Saturday, October 17, to give our bulletin publishers time to make any changes that may be necessary. If this time change happens, it will be for the end of this month, which will coincide with the end of daylight saving time. It is probably a good thing to keep this in mind: The Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day), which is Monday, November 2, IS NOT A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. There will be just the normal mass time, which is 9 a.m. I will remind you of this again next week. As I think of time changes and the like, I have been asked by Grand Knight Mike Chapman to remind our beloved Knights of Columbus to please take note of their new meeting time and date. It is this Tuesday, October 20, and will always be held the third Tuesday of the month unless stated otherwise in the bulletin. Finally, the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, which is every Sunday at 11:15 in the room on your immediate right as you enter the main door, is now up and running. This may well be the place for your younger child/ren to appreciate the Sunday Gospel, which is shared and talked about at their level and followed with their own prayers before they join the rest of the community in the church at the preparation of the gifts. That is where all those children and parents are coming from if you every wondered why do so many arrive so late! If you are not sure if it is for you and your child/ren, please give it a try and decide what works best for you and your little one/s. I am looking forward to my first and to many more Family Fun Days with you all, Fr. Niall
