Prior 2nd Saturday Build Report Matt Schuetze reported: NO BUILD ON 12/13 DUE TO DEDICATION. Grosse Pointe Partners and Habitat Detroit held the dedication of the Habitat GP Partners sponsored house at 4730 Lakepointe on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 10:00am. Many Habitat GP Partners members, volunteers, parishioners, clergy, friends, and fellow Habitat homeowners welcomed and encouraged homeowner Carol Robinson to begin a new stage in the lives of her and her sons. The ceremony was indeed incredibly moving...a perfect way to get in the true spirit of Christmas. Attendees met at the house at 4730 Lakepointe. Several gifts were bestowed upon Ms. Robinson from various sources: Ann Helm’s cross-stitch, Helen Santiz and Chapman Cunningham provided handmade blankets, Sandra Cobb a highly symbolic lemonade pitcher, and more. The ceremony was warm, stirring, and highly emotional, with kind words from clergy, friends, and Habitat Detroit staff. Ms. Robinson gave tearful thanks to GPPartners volunteers and all who boosted her through her sweat equity program. Several photos taken at the dedication were distributed. Educational Session Traci Odom, Habitat Family Services Director, gave an overview of the application process and selection criteria for family partners. Some of the key points discussed by Traci were:  Recruiting in 2008 resulted in 598 prescreening applications for homes.  Currently 9 family partners are in the pipeline.  Selection criteria: o Must have a need for housing o Hold a job which enables partner to make the $600-$650 monthly payment on the 0% interest mortgage. o Willingness to perform sweat-equity and attend workshops.  Family partner training process involves: o Typically requires 9-12 months to complete.
