Wel c o m e t o West mi n ste r
Westminster seeks to be a light in the city. We serve Jesus Christ, proclaiming his love and justice and acting with compassion and grace. We are a community of faith which values diversity, welcoming all in the name of the One whose sacrificial love is unconditional. We affirm the dignity of each individual as created by God, loved by Christ and nurtured on the journey of faith by the Holy Spirit. We welcome all who would join us on the pilgrimage of faith. You will find information about programs and events in our Welcome Center, located in the Gathering Place, just outside the parlor. Pick up a copy of “The Chimes,” our monthly newsletter, or view it online at www.westminstergr.com. Need more information? Look for a member wearing a purple “Ask me! I can help.” nametag. They will be happy to help you learn more about our church.

PASTOR SCHEDULE: Rev Chandler Stokes is away on vacation through August 8th. Rev. Anne Weirich is on the Open Door Mission Trip in Detroit. GRAND RAPIDS PRESS ADVERTISING: For those of you that still receive the Grand Rapids Press, you may have noticed that we have discontinued our advertisement in Saturday’s paper. Due to the drop in overall circulation of the Press, and changes in the way people gather information, WPC’s Membership Growth & Development committee and staff have agreed that the significant cost involved is not the most effective use of our limited resources. We will, however, continue to advertise in the paper for Christmas and Easter worship, and a general advertisement is included in the Grand Rapids Convention and Visitors Bureau Guide, available to visitors at local hotels, tourist destinations, etc. Our worship schedule is always available in the Chimes, the bulletin and also on our website: www.westminstergr.com We will continue to explore other avenues to promote the work and life of our church. If you have further questions about this change, please contact Susan Jennings, Minister for Membership Development, at 616-717-5542 or susanj@westminstergr.com.

Worship at Westminster
Let us worship together! Aids for Worship, including large print bulletins (for adults & children), hymnals and bibles are available from the ushers. We offer personal hearing devices, and our Hearing Loop System works with your hearing aid when set to “T.”

Children at Westminster
We welcome children! They are an important part of the worshiping community. All children are welcome to stay through the entire worship service and worship aids are available. There are worship notebooks for 3rd-5th graders and worship bags for younger children, located in the narthex on the bookshelf and in the basket. Bulletins especially for children are also available. Other children’s opportunities: Nursery: The nursery rooms are located down the hall to the right of the Parlor. Nursery care is available from 8:30 am - 12:00 noon for children infant - three years (Summer hours beginning June 7: 9:45 - 11:15 am). Nurturing Center: Children ages three and four may leave the service at the time of blessing for stories, songs and free play. Worship Centers: Children four years through second grade also leave at the time of blessing to complete their worship experience in an interactive worship setting.

Let us declare Who fills the earth with beauty, Causes the sea to shout praise And the birds to sing glory. Great and Loving is our God: Touching us in our need, Sending friends to listen and embrace, Giving food in all seasons with abundant grace. Wondrous and compassionate is our God: Setting our hearts on fire, our minds to new possibilities and our voices to singing. “Break Thou the Bread of Life”

CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Most gracious God, we confess that we spend much of our lives on that which does not satisfy. We do not always count our time and resources as precious gifts, but squander them in meaningless activities and seemingly urgent needs. Look kindly upon us, for the temptation to waste is overwhelming in our world. Forgive us O God; enable us to understand what is important, and to use the gifts of life responsibly, for we want to be your people in word and in deed. For we pray in Jesus name, Amen. ~ Silent Prayer ~ ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE One: Friends, trust this good news of the Gospel. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven, accepted and made new. Thanks be to God. Amen. KYRIE ELEISON

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Susan Jennings One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. One: Lift up you hearts. All: We lift them up to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give thanks and praise. Prayers of Thanksgiving and Intercession Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. MOMENT FOR STEWARDSHIP Randy Block
