									                      CAREER PREPARATION EDUCATION

Programs of cooperative part-time training shall be designed to provide classroom instruction
and on-the-job supervised training and work experience for high school students preparing to
enter employment in occupational classifications related to the specific program choice. A
student must be a minimum age of 16 to enroll in any career preparation education program. All
applicants must have maintained good prior attendance and have accumulated minimal
disciplinary infractions before acceptance into a cooperative program.

NOTE: Students must work a minimum of 15 hours each week, ten of which must be worked
Monday through Friday. All work programs are a full year course. Students may not change
work programs during the school year.
All students must attend classroom instruction in order to go to work. If a student is absent from
school, he/she may not go to work. Close supervision is maintained on all students placed on
jobs. A physical education waiver is available if needed.

AG SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY CAREER PREPARATION I
                                                                  Grade 11-12; 16 years of age; Teacher

                                                                  approval.
Class time is spent in group study of subjects that concern all students employed in agriculture, as well as
individual study related to the student’s specific occupation. Emphasis is placed on training. The second
year is a continuation of the first year and Ag Co-op I is a prerequisite for Ag Co-op II. Agriculture
related jobs might include: farm hand, ranch hand, feed store-worker, grain elevator worker, dairy hand,
etc.

HEALTH SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION III CO-OP

This occupationally specific course is designed to provide classroom technical instruction and
on-the-job learning experiences. The student will be expected to assume some responsibility for
independent study under close supervision of the classroom instructor and clinical supervisor.
Employment training must be in an approved medically related job such as a doctor’s office,
hospital, dentist’s office, physical therapy unit, community health clinic, etc.

HOME ECONOMICS CAREER                            PREPARATION I & II
                                                     Grade 11-12; 16 years of age; Teacher
                  CREDIT       3       PREREQUISITE
                                                     approval.
HECP is an occupationally specific course designed to provide classroom technical instruction
and on-the-job learning experiences. Occupationally specific skill training is provided by local
business and industry in areas compatible with each student’s identified career objectives.
Employment training may be in child care guidance, management, and services; food production,
management, and services; services for the elderly; apparel and textiles production, management,
and services; housing, home furnishings, and equipment management, production and services;
institutional maintenance; hospitality services; and fashion design. Students must remain
employed for the entire course.

TRADE & INDUSTRIAL EDUCATION CAREER PREPARATION I & II

                                                       approval.
The Trade & Industrial Education (T&IECP) program is a cooperative arrangement between the
school and various industrial business establishments. Students train for jobs in industrial
occupations or skilled trades. The major portion of the time is spent in study related to a
student’s individual job. This study is designed to develop the skills and technical knowledge
needed to prepare the student for full-time employment in chosen occupations. To form
leadership and daily living skills, T&IECP instruction emphasizes good work habits, careful
career selection and effective personal, family, and community relationships.

MARKETING DYNAMICS/ MARKETING MANAGEMENT

Marketing Co-op students will get experience and skills that employers want in full-time
employees. Students will train in large or small stores or in other service or distributive
businesses. Students will study careers, marketing, merchandising, management, computers,
communication, entrepreneurship and other specific skills that will help them advance in their
own careers. Students will also be members of DECA with opportunities to use new leadership
skills in district, state, and national competition. Marketing Education II is the second year in
marketing.

BUSINESS EDUCATION CAREER PREPARATION I & II
                                                        Grade 11-12; 16 years of age; One
                 CREDIT        3     PREREQUISITE previous business course; Teacher
                                                        approval.
The job skills and procedures necessary for occupational competence in an office occupation
will, for the most part, be taught by the employer of these students at the training station.
However, these skills must be developed to an initial skill level in preparatory courses, prior to
entering the vocational program. The specific technical and related information required will
largely be taught in the related studies classroom session. Some of these units of instruction can
best be taught on an individual instruction basis and some can be best taught through group
instruction methods. Time is also available for increasing specific skills in the classroom. Some
of these skills include different office machines such as the microcomputer on which work
processing is taught. The student must have the ability to develop office skills and an interest in
office work. The second year is a continuation of the first. BECP jobs might include: secretary,
receptionist, file clerk, computer operator, etc. THIS IS A TECH PREP COURSE.

Any students desiring to enroll in the BECP work program must have had a previous business
subject or be concurrently enrolled in one.
